along the coast with regard to ceilings and visibility as
dissipating area of rain/showers moves east across the area.
another area of showers and storms that is expected to develop to
the west of the area later this afternoon will be moving east
toward the forecast area this evening, but weakening and
dissipating as it moves east into the rain cooled and outflow
dominated stable airmass that is in place. This trend is supported
by majority of mesoscale models. Some patchy light fog tonight
across the area with surface visibility generally in the MVFR
range. No rain expected early Monday morning, but increasing
chances for showers and storms late in the day. Surface winds

UPDATE...Quite a few changes/updates made to the forecast package
for this afternoon. As we noted yesterday, rain cooled-outflow
dominated airmass has settled over the region, with very little
precipitation noted over inland areas. As such lowered likely
PoPs inland to low-end chance (generally around 30 percent) for
the remainder of the afternoon. May see some redevelopment inland
this afternoon as shortwave aloft approaches area, but with the
stable airmass don't anticipate more than scattered activity this
afternoon. Left likely PoPs down along the coast as left over
light/moderate rains from earlier thunderstorm activity moves east
across those areas (although this rain area is on a diminishing
trend). May see a few breaks in clouds this afternoon, especially
over interior counties, but in general remaining mostly cloudy.
With this, and based on latest temperature trends and current
observations we have lowered the expected high temperatures today
(especially over inland areas). Looking for upper 70s to lower
80s across the entire region. Maintained the high risk of rip
currents along the coast, and extended it to continue through

12Z issuance...Areas away from the coast are seeing general MVFR
to VFR CIGS/VISBYS, with MVFR to IFR levels along the coast (where
widespread tsra occurred). Am expecting a rise to general MVFR to
VFR everywhere today, then drop this afternoon into the evening as
shra/tsra again develop.

PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 501 AM CDT Sun May 21 2017/

NEAR TERM /Now Through Sunday night/...An outflow from the
overnight activity continues to push south of the AL/NW FL
coast, helping to position most precip activity, especially
thunderstorms, south of the coast attm.

A Shortwave is expected to move from over west Tx today into
tonight, bringing another round of precip to the area. Guidance is
advertising a weak front moving south across the forecast area today
then stalling along the northern Gulf Coast tonight. How the
overnight activity has affected the current atmosphere over and near
the forecast area will define the first two periods of the forecast
as the next shortwave and weak front pass. With the strong activity
last night leaving a more stabilized airmass over the forecast area,
am expecting less strong to severe storms. Enough instability is
present for tsra as apposed to shra, especially noontime on, so have
left the thunder in. This morning, with areas of the forecast area
needing some heating to destabilize, have pushed best chance for
rain closer to and south of the coast. With the boundary and
shortwave combined with some daytime destabilization, am expecting
the precip activity to spread inland from the Gulf and/or move east
from the Lower Mississippi River Valley. Instability is down, so any
strong to severe storms will less in amount. With wind strength
down, am not expecting training cells to be a problem today into
tonight as it was the previous night, though with some localities
seeing 5+ inches of rain Saturday through last night, these
localities may see some addition water problems, though with QPF
amounts down, am expecting more mainly nuisance flooding over the
area.

For temps today, have went between the warmer GFS and cooler NAM
solutions, with some daytime heating allowing for some warming.
Highs generally in the mid 80s expected. Tonight, cloud cover will
limit overnight cooling and with no real cool push with the front,
have kept tonight's temps above seasonal. Lows in the mid to upper
60s expected. /16

SHORT TERM /Monday Through Tuesday night/...A closed upper low
pressure area over southwest Ontario Monday morning will split
into two separate lows, with one ejecting off to the east, and
the second migrating southward along the Mississippi River to
Saint Louis. As a result, the broad upper trough over the eastern
two- thirds of the nation will become more amplified and dig
further south to the southern Gulf of Mexico by late Tuesday
night.

Meanwhile a surface low pressure area across southern Ontario will
also split into two separate lows, with one ejecting off to the
east, and the second migrating southward to the Ohio River valley
region. An associated cold front approaching from the west Tuesday
evening will move across the forecast through the overnight hours.

A returning deep southwesterly to westerly wind flow will allow
abundant moisture to move back over the forecast area with
precipitable water values returning to near two inches on Monday,
and then decrease slightly again on Tuesday as a potential weak
surface low forming along the coastline moves east of the area,
sending a surface boundary south through the forecast area.

It will continue to be cloudy and rainy through early next week
as the combination of abundant moisture, upper level disturbances
moving from southwest to northeast over the forecast area, and
decreasing stability, especially during the daylight hours,
results in numerous to widespread showers and thunderstorms on
Monday and Tuesday. Flash and areal flooding from heavy rainfall
will be the main threat through the short term, with additional
widespread rainfall amounts of 3 to 4 inches across the entire
forecast area, with locally higher amounts of 6 to 8 inches
possible. Flash Flood Watches will likely be issued and expanded
as the event nears.

In addition, some storms will produce gusty surface winds along
with frequent lightning, however widespread severe weather is not
anticipated.

High temperatures Monday will range from 80 to 85 degrees. Low
temperatures Monday night will range from 62 to 67 degrees along
and northwest of I-65, and from 67 to 72 degrees to the southeast.
High temperatures Tuesday will range from 77 to 82 degrees. Low
temperatures Tuesday night will range from 62 to 67 degrees inland
areas, with lower 70s at the beaches. /22

LONG TERM /Wednesday Through Saturday/...The broad upper trough
over the eastern two-thirds of the nation to the southern Gulf of
Mexico will move east of the region through the remainder of the
week, followed by zonal flow aloft. A light southwesterly surface
wind may try to redevelop on Wednesday, keeping some lingering
rain across the area. Meanwhile, a stronger cold front approaching
from the northwest midweek moves across the forecast area and
into the northern gulf, bring a dry period back into the region

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of south central
Alabama...southwest Alabama...northwest Florida and southeast
Mississippi.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

Thunderstorms are expected again today. An isolated strong to
severe storm is possible this afternoon into tonight, with strong
to damaging winds and small hail possible. Organized severe
weather is not expected.

Additional rain over area coastal counties may again cause
localized nuisance to minor flooding.

Moderate onshore winds and long period swell will combine to
create a high risk of rip currents on area beaches through
today.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday through Saturday

Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to
continue across the area through Wednesday. Strong to possibly
severe storms are possible Monday into Monday night, with strong
to damaging winds the primary threat. Small hail is also possible.

With an extended period of rain lasting through Wednesday, an
increasing possibility of flooding exists.
