continue to rise to near 6.0 feet by early this morning. Additional
rises are possible thereafter.
* Impact...At 5.9 feet...There is minor lowland flooding in the
Waukesha area. This level is about the 50 percent flood meaning
there is a 50 percent chance in any given year of the river
reaching this level.

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI 330 AM CDT Thu Jul 13 2017 .DISCUSSION... TODAY AND TONIGHT...Forecast Confidence Is Medium. Weak low pressure and cold front are exiting the area. An area of low stratus and some fog should slide southward into at least northern portions of the area for a time this morning, before mixing out by the afternoon. There could be a quick wind shift to the northeast near the lake later this morning into the early afternoon, with weak northwest winds inland. Some models were hinting at a few showers or storms forming with a surface trough extending into northeastern portions of the area this afternoon. However, not seeing much if any synoptic upward vertical motion this afternoon. Area forecast soundings do support diurnal cumulus development with some weak mean layer CAPE. Cap around 5000 feet above ground level does help inhibit shower/storm potential as well. For now, will go with a dry forecast. There is weak cold air advection today. Dewpoints will be slow to fall today, resulting in another rather humid day. Highs should reach the upper 70s over most of the area, turning cooler near the lake. Increasing northwest winds will bring stronger cold air advection and help scour out the moist dewpoints. Quiet weather is expected. A passing 500 mb shortwave trough may bring some clouds to the northeastern portions of the area overnight. Lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s seem reasonable tonight. Friday and Saturday - Confidence...Medium to High Looks like a quiet period with surface high dominating Friday and Friday night. A low level thermal trough will be in place with 925 temps in the teens celsius along with a refreshingly dry airmass. A frontal boundary moves into northern or central Wisconsin on Saturday. The 925 temps get a boost ahead of this front with 925 temps rising to 20-22c. Will have just a small chance on the far northwest cwa to account for the somewhat quicker ECMWF and GEM solutions. GFS and NAM solutions keep the cwa dry through Saturday. Saturday night - Confidence...Medium The cold front is proggd to shift southeast across the cwa so will have chances for tsra with this feature. Appears the better DCVA from 500 millibar shortwave arrives well after the front passes however there will be low level forcing with the front and potentially over 1000 j/kg of CAPE into the evening hours. However the higher CAPE with storm initiation appears to be setting up to our north though still expect enough in place to potentially see some severe storms reach us during the evening, per SWODY3. Overall mid level lapse rates look good with proggd 0-6km bulk shear under 40 knots. Sunday through Tuesday - Confidence...Medium With the front having passed to our south high pressure will take control once again. This feature will keep it quiet and dry into Monday. A warmer return flow sets up for Tuesday with 925 temps getting back into the 20s celsius. Only the GEM quickly brings a front through while the GFS and ECMWF keep any precip off to our west. Tuesday night and Wednesday - Confidence...Low to Medium Pattern returns to a potentially more active one as hot dome sets up across the middle of the country and energy rides the jet on the northern periphery. 850 baroclinic zone becomes situated either across northern WI (ECMWF) or southern WI (GFS). Low pressure will be slowly approaching from the plains and into a potentially very warm, moist and unstable airmass. && .AVIATION(09Z TAFS)...Low stratus with ceilings around or below alternate minimums, and some light fog, may move into at least northern portions of the area for a time this morning, before dissipating by this afternoon. High clouds will continue to spread across the area as well today. Scattered to broken diurnal cumulus clouds are also expected this afternoon. Light northwest winds inland are expected, with northeast winds by late morning or early afternoon near the lake. Northwest winds increase tonight, and bring less humid conditions into the area. Middle to high clouds should pass through tonight as well. && .MARINE...Some light fog may affect the nearshore waters into this morning, before dissipating.
