Isolated showers will continue across the region through the
evening hours. Later tonight, the chance of showers and
thunderstorms will begin to increase as the outer bands over
Hurricane Irma begin to approach the region. Winds will also begin
to increase by Saturday morning.
Regarding Hurricane Irma, here are the latest key messages as it
continues to approach the region from the Bahamas as a dangerous
Category 4 storm:
1. Hurricane Irma is a severe and extremely dangerous threat to
South Florida. This is a potentially deadly situation!
2. Direct major hurricane landfall is likely somewhere across
South Florida this weekend.
3. Preparations to protect life and property should be completed
by tonight.
4. People in mobile homes and evacuation areas should move to a
safer location.
5. Take final shelter by early Saturday morning.
