* Impact...at 10.5 feet...Moderate lowland flooding throughout reach,
with some rural roads flooded. Minor flooding in lower parts of
Winnemucca with sewer backups, main area impacted is between Union
Pacific Railroad and Second Street beneath Interstate 80. Property
damage in Winnemucca is minimal.
* Impact...at 11.0 feet...Moderate to major lowland flooding
throughout reach. Many rural roads near river flooded. Minor to
moderate flooding in lower portions of winnemucca. Main area

occurring, and forecast to continue through the weekend on into next
week.
For the Lower Humboldt, including Comus, minor flooding is occurring
with the river forecast to rise to moderate flood stage on Friday,
and continue to slowly rise through the weekend.
For the Marys River, including Deeth, no flooding is observed or
forecast.
...Some rivers and streams will continue to run high, with warming
temperatures through the weekend likely to add some additional snow
melt into next week...

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Elko NV 319 AM PDT Sun May 7 2017 .SYNOPSIS...Unsettled weather will continue into early next week. By the middle of next week, the region should begin to clear out with moderating temperatures. && .SHORT TERM...Today through Tuesday. The unsettled weather pattern is expected to continue through early next week. Tonight/Sunday morning - Had to reintroduce isolated thunderstorms for SW/NE portions of the CWA. Enough forcing and elevated instability is in place to keep convection going. Actually, a couple of strong storms formed in NW Nye county, so small hail and gusty winds are also possible. This convection should remain through the morning. Today - Expect another active day of weather along/near the deformation axis from the SW corner of CWA to the NE corner. Instability near 1000 j/kg and modest shear values of 25-35 kts will help storm organization. These shear values will favor multicellular clusters. Impressive forcing couplet and strong div/diffluent flow aloft will also aid in lift/exhaust for thunderstorms. The best location will be on a line from Austin to Elko and NE toward Jackpot. Due to the weak overall flow and large directional winds through the column, corfidi vectors will be low. This signals slow storm motion. The slow storm motion could pose a localized minor flooding issue where storms remain stationary. In addition to the minor flooding possibilities, an impressive dry punch will move into central NV creating very steep low-mid level lapse rates. Along the fringe, an isolated severe thunderstorm or two will be possible with the potential for strong outflow winds. The hail threat will be low, but small to marginally severe hail could be a possibility under more sustained updrafts/stronger storm clusters. However confidence is quite low on this solution. Convection will wane again near sunset as instability weakens. However showers and perhaps and isolated thunderstorm will persist through the evening/night. The convection/precip will gradually pull south as the closed low slowly, and I mean slowly, pulls away from the reigon. This will start to dry out northern Nevada. Monday - Yet another round of convection will form. However stability parameters and thunderstorm ingredients are a little less than previous days. Regardless, at least isolated thunderstorms will form across central NV. A few strong storms will be possible, but confidence is rather low at this time. Snow levels will remain quite high (9000-10000ft+), but the highest peaks in northern Nye, southern Lander/Eureka, and White Pine Counties could see 6-12 inches of snow. Tuesday - Subsidence behind the closed low with a building dirty ridge will dry things out. Temps will also warm back into the upper 60s and lower 70s. Any lingering chances of isolated showers would be across extreme eastern White Pine County. .LONG TERM...Tuesday night through next Sunday. Lingering moisture across the across White Pine county area could bring a few showers to the Great Basin National Park area Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Otherwise, ridging will build into the Great Basin region Wednesday and Thursday bringing quiet and warm conditions to NV with high temperatures in the upper 70s and lows in the 40s. Models are in decent agreement in bringing the next low and trough to the Pacific Northwest later this week. A short wave and weak cold front rounding the base of the trough could interact with limited moisture across northern NV but impacts appear to be minimal Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will drop a few degrees with highs scaling back to the upper 60s to low 70s and lows in the upper 30s for next weekend. && .AVIATION...Scattered showers and thunderstorms once again will develop this afternoon across mainly central NV at KTPH and KELY and possibly KEKO. Thunderstorms could linger into the overnight hours near KTPH and KELY. Gusty winds up to 45 kts are possible in the vicinity of thunderstorms as well as small hail and lightning. Winds will be considerably lower at KELY and KTPH today but gusts will still reach to between 20 and 25 kt. && .HYDROLOGY...River and creek levels will likely rise as there is the potential for increased rainfall through early next week as an active weather pattern continues. The location of the system and attendant moisture will play a role on where the rain will occur. This will need to be watched carefully as in many locations, the ground still holds a lot of water and runoff into fast running creeks and streams is likely. Here are the locations where flood warnings are currently in effect: Humboldt River - Comus, near Winnemucca: Minor to moderate flooding continues. Bruneau River - near Rowland: Moderate flooding continues with slight rises yesterday. Additional rises are possible through the weekend and into early next week. Jarbidge River - below Jarbidge: The river climbed close to minor flood stage last evening. Another warm day and any precip could result in the river rising into minor flood stage. A flood warning will continue. The following rivers/creeks are running high, but are below flood stage at this time: Wildhorse Dam - at Wildhorse Owyhee River - near Mountain City Martin Creek - near Paradise Valley Mary's River - near Deeth Lamoille Creek - near Lamoille: has risen over the past few days. A few more warm days and any precip could result in the creek rising into minor flood stage. This will be watched very closely through the weekend. Interested persons will want to check back frequently for more updates. Humboldt River - Battle Mountain: higher than normal flows continue.
