.SYNOPSIS...Unsettled weather has returned to the Great basin as
a series of storm system pass through during the weekend and into
next week. The storm system will bring extensive cloud cover and
showers into the Silver State.

&&

.SHORT TERM...Today through Tuesday. Nearly steady stream of
moisture and borderline instability sufficient for showers and
isolated thunderstorms. Freezing levels remain mid-slopes or
higher through the period so that the only snow will be in the
lower ranges and higher peaks. Valleys should see all liquid.
AMounts not terribly heavy but widespread over northern Nevada,
mostly Humboldt, northern Lander/Eureka, and Elko Counties.
Further south, limited pops until Monday then chance pops into
tuesday.

Best instability, albeit borderline, is Tuesday afternoon. Weak
front with fairly pathetic thickness gradients extends north-
northeast to south-southwest over the middle of the state. Weak
jet support further west. Best LI/CAPE over eastern Nevada. There
is probably enough of a combo to warrant isolated thunder over a
large area, but very isolated, from late Tuesday morning until mid
afternoon.

.LONG TERM...Tuesday night through Saturday. An inclement pattern
will take shape across northern Nevada. Upper level low pressure
off the northwest coast of the US will send an open wave trough
across the state Tuesday night into Wednesday. This will bring
showers to the forecast area. Wednesday's highs will be in the low
to upper 50s with some cooler air anticipated to move in through
the afternoon. Snow levels are expected to drop to the valley
floors by Wednesday evening. Overnight lows will be in the low to
mid 30s. The main trough axis will be moving out of the area
through Thursday but highs will be near normal, with readings in
the upper 40s to mid 50s. The area is forecast to under a
transitory ridge for a brief break in the weather with highs in
the 50s for Friday. By Saturday, it looks like another trough
will make its way through the area, with more rain showers
forecast.

.AVIATION...Breezy conditions will develop this afternoon across
portions of the forecast area, with some gusts around 25kt. KEKO
and KWMC could see some light rain showers, but conditions are
expected to remain VFR.

&&

.HYDROLOGY...Well above normal temperatures over the past week
have helped reduce mountain snowpacks across northern and central
NV, with snow water equivalent levels (SWE) lowering from roughly
140-150 percent of normal earlier this month, down to the current
115-130 percent of normal. The recent spring-like warmth and
melting snowpack has lead to rising creek and river levels, which
will continue for at least a few more days.

Temperatures will begin to cool, though remain near normal, as
trough energy moves in from the northwest for the mid-week period.
However periods of rain will accompany the incoming system. At
this time no wide-spread heavy rain is expected over the coming
week, however there may be some periods of moderate rain mainly
over northeastern NV from Saturday evening through Monday
afternoon which could result in upward bumps to creek levels.

There are a few rivers that are either in minor flood stage, or
forecast to reach minor flood stage this weekend or early next
week. At this time no creek or river is in moderate flood stage,
however the Humboldt River from Battle Mountain down stream to
Comus is expected to reach moderate flood stage in the Monday to
Tuesday time-frame, likely reaching to Winnemucca around the
middle of next week.

Check frequently for updated hydrologic information over the
coming week, as updated flood warnings, river statements or
hydrologic outlooks may be issued one or more times a day as
creeks and rivers continue to rise.

The main change since last Friday afternoon has been the new
issuance of a flood warning for Humboldt River at Palisade, as
that stretch of the river is expected to rise up into minor flood
stage Monday morning.
