FOR NORTHWESTERN LAURENS...SOUTHEASTERN GREENVILLE AND NORTHWESTERN
SPARTANBURG COUNTIES...

At 241 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from 9 miles northwest of Spartanburg to 16 miles southeast
of Greenville Downtown, moving northeast at 50 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. 

SOURCE...Radar indicated. 

IMPACT...Expect damage to trees and minor damage to roofs and 
         siding. 

Locations impacted include...
Simpsonville, Five Forks, Fountain Inn, Boiling Springs SC, Duncan,
Lyman, Wellford, Inman, Campobello and Reidville.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A tornado watch remains in effect for the warned area. Tornadoes can
develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. Although a tornado is not
immediately likely, if one is spotted, act quickly and move to a
place of safety inside a sturdy structure such as a basement or small
interior room.

Scattered trees and power lines will be blown down in the warned
area. Seek shelter inside an interior room.

.SYNOPSIS...
A strong upper level system and associated cold front will move
northeast and east of our region tonight. Weak high pressure crosses
our area Tuesday and Tuesday night.  A strong cold front approaches
on Wednesday preceded by another round of showers and thunderstorms.
Expect much below normal temperatures at the end of the week with
snow showers in the North Carolina mountains.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
130 PM EDT Update...Squall line moving in the wrn zones as progged
with little fanfare outside of pea hail and gusty winds due to very
low sfc-based instability. Hi-res models don/t generate much
instability until aft 19z across the far sw/rn zones as llvl dry air
mixes in. Strong to svr tstms are still probable along and south of
the I-85 corridor as the sbCAPE axis translates ne. The ern zones
could see a better chance svr activity with the bndry by 21z due to
early insol onset.

1100 AM EDT Update...Conv coverage is beginning to increase in
coverage across the wrn zones. Good cloud cover has kept the atmos
stable and expect llvl moist adv to maintain clouds along the ne/ly
propagating warm front thru the early afternoon. Thunder has been
minimal and short-lived as instability remains elevated and shallow.
However...there are stronger fast moving SPS type storms developing
across the sw/rn zones in higher sfc td/s. A more organized squall
line still looks good to track east across the FA beginning aft 18z
wrn zones and exiting east of the I-77 corridor arnd 22z. The
best sfc-based instability will develop across the srn zones in
diff heating...mainly along and south of the I-85 corridor. With
high levels of 0-1km SRH...a 50kt-60kt llvl jet and increasing upper
dynamics...this line of storms will be capable of producing large
hail...damaging winds and perhaps a few tornadoes thru the
afternoon...again mainly along and south of I-85

As of 630 AM EDT Monday:  All in all the fcst continues to look
good regarding timing of convection through the day per latest
CAM guidance.  Starting to see light upglide/upslope shra on
radar as expected, thus the low end pops along the southern/central
escarpment remain valid.  Otherwise, tweaked t/td and sky to account
for recent ob/sat trends and left the remainder of today's fcst
as it was.

As of 330 AM EDT Monday:  An active weather day in store across
northeast GA and the western Carolinas.  The upper pattern
this morning is highlighted by an open H5 low rotating over the
Southern Plains, while an amplified ridge axis moves east atop
the Appalachians to setup along the east coast.  At the surface,
a region of cyclogenesis beneath the aforementioned H5 low has led
to broad baroclynicity over the Deep South where a cold front is
moving into the MS River valley, and a warm front pushes northward
approaching the I40 corridor.  Meanwhile to the east, a broad yet
weak sfc anticyclone dominates the pattern across the Mid Atlantic,
which has worked to keep flow over the Carolinas somewhat backed
through early morning.  That said, this pattern is modifying at
this time as sfc plots across the Midlands now feature veer sely
flow and recovering dewpoints.  With that, low stratus has spread
across the region thanks to a decoupled PBL and the aforementioned
moisture advection.  Guidance continues to favor development of
Blue Ridge Escarpment showers over the next few hours via upsloping
processes, thus low end pops were included.

The real story of the day however will be the evolution of the
MLC mentioned above, and any associated convection.  Currently,
convection continues across the Lower MS River valley consequent
of ample sfc buoyancy and modest upper jet divergence.  As the
warm front spreads further to the north, additional instability
will be uncovered across north/central AL/GA as the current Gulf
coastal MCS races east.  This will lead to additional development
north of I20 across AL/GA where guidance favors a linear squall.
Timing the movement of the prefrontal squall line, and any
potential pre squall discrete cells is in question as the CAM
guidance is significantly faster than the operational guidance.
Given the consensus of the CAM guidance, the fcst leaned heavily
on said timing, while also considering the potential for said
discrete cells.  Thus, the fcst will feature pops ramping up
through morning, however sharply after sunrise where the HighRes
windows as well as the HRRR suggest development of discrete tsra
developing along and behind the intruding warm front across the
Upper Savannah River Valley.  If this occurs, these cells will race
to the northeast oriented along the I85 corridor, however possibly
struggling to survive initially as instability will suffer thanks
to abundant stratus thus limiting insolation.  As the morning
unfolds, any convection is expected to gain strength as additional
instability develops thanks to any heating and warm frontal surge,
especially once the squall line arrives over the western tier
of the cwfa just before noon.  This line will be rather robust
given ample upper support and uncovered sfc based cape upwards
of 1k j/kg, especially along/south of I85.  Shear continues to
impress as sfc flow remains backed to the sse ahead of the line
beneath a strong 50-60kt swly llv jet max, all yielding long right
turning hodographs and llv srh reaching near 5-6 hundred m2/s2.
Therefore, any of the deeper convection could and likely will
exhibit rotation, leading to the potential of embedded supercells.
The primary threats today will be damaging winds and large hail,
with an isolated tornado threat maximized along/south of I85
consequent with the best shear/instability overlapping.  In addition
to this, deep synoptic lift amongst moist profiles will lead to
the potential of heavy rainfall, however any flash flooding threat
should remain confined to the escarpment given upsloping potential,
as well as any localities that experience cell training.  SPC has
downgraded the outlook for today to a slight risk, primarily due
to uncertainty of pre squall discrete cells, and faster timing
which will negate better heating induced instability.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 1 pm EDT Monday: The next robust closed upper system will move
across the southern Plains Tuesday evening. Ahead of this system, a
warm front left over from the departing cold front that is affecting
the area today will lift back northward from the GA/FL border
Tuesday night. The warm front should rapidly uncover improving
instability Wednesday afternoon. Meanwhile, the upper system will
move up the OH Valley late Wed through Wed night and drag a trough
axis across the Deep South. The best overlap of strong instability
and deep layer shear will likely impact our region Wednesday
evening, possibly lingering into the early morning hours along and
east of I-77. The most focused severe potential could be with a
squall line just ahead of the cold front Wednesday night. The
current HWO mention will be retained.

A deep and broad trough will persist over the eastern U.S. through
Thursday behind the departing cold front. Cold air and deeper
moisture will wrap back across the southern Appalachians through
Thursday, with some higher elevation snow showers possible.
Otherwise, expect windy conditions throughout.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 350 AM Monday, The main story of the medium range will be the
potential for accumulating northwest flow snow across the mtns and
unseasonably cool temperatures in the early part of the period, as a
cold upper trough slides across the region. The most likely period
for accumulating snow showers would be Thu night into Friday. The
most likely areas to see decent accumulations will be across the
high elevations near the Tennessee border, but even the lower
valleys across the far western mtns could see some light amounts.
Snow showers should gradually taper off Friday night/early Saturday.
Meanwhile, all areas should see temps 10-15 degrees below normal Fri
and Fri night before conditions begin to moderate later in the
period. Frost concerns could creep up for portions of the Piedmont
and foothills over the weekend.

.AVIATION /18Z MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
At KCLT and Elsewhere: Warm front crossing the area ahead of a
weakening squall line. Timed in TSRA with TEMPOs all sites changing
to -SHRA and VCSH aft 21z west and 23z east. CIGs will remain in the
MVFR/IFR range with lowering to LIFR possible under any tstms. Llvl
moisture will remain high overnight and lingering -SHRA will remain
in the vicinity all locales. Expect quickly improving conds to VFR
aft 13z as dry slot works in. Gusty w/ly to nw/ly winds late in the
TAF period.

Outlook: Expect brief drying on Tuesday, with another low pressure
system and associated restrictions possibly impacting the area from
late Wednesday into Thursday.

At 1106 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm with
intense lightning 12 miles southwest of Seneca, or near Tugaloo State
Park, moving northeast at 65 mph.

Locations to be impacted include...
Clemson, Seneca, Walhalla, Central, Pendleton, Westminster, Lake
Hartwell, Lake Keowee, Townville and Sandy Springs.

In addition to intense lightning, wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea
size hail will be possible in these areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Frequent lightning is occurring with this storm. If outdoors, try to
get indoors or into a hard topped vehicle. Otherwise, stay away from
open areas and isolated high objects such as trees. When indoors,

devices. Do not take a shower or bath. Try to unplug unnecessary

of thunderstorms along a line extending from 3 miles northeast of
Toccoa to 10 miles north of Carnesville to 4 miles northeast of
Commerce, and moving northeast at 45 mph.

Locations to be impacted include...
Toccoa, Seneca, Hartwell, Walhalla, Carnesville, Royston,
Westminster, Reed Creek, Lavonia and Gumlog.

Wind gusts up to 45 mph and pea size hail will be possible in these
areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Gusty winds can blow down trees that are dead, or that have weakened
root systems. Outdoor furniture and similar items can be tossed
around if not anchored. Seek shelter indoors.

These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio and
tv stations, as well as local cable tv outlets for additional
information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

Lake Hartwell is in the path of these storms. Cloud to ground
lightning and gusty winds will create dangerous boating conditions.

At 120 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated the leading edge of a cluster
of thunderstorms along a line extending from 10 miles east of
Franklin to 8 miles southeast of Clayton, and moving northeast at 40
mph.

Locations to be impacted include...
Cullowhee, Highlands, Cashiers, Lake Toxaway, Lake Glenville, Devils
Fork State Park, Gorges State Park, Oconee State Park, Lake Jocassee
and B.R. Parkway-Black Balsam To Mount Pisgah.

Wind gusts up to 45 mph and very heavy rainfall rates up to 2 inches
per hour will be possible in these areas.

Danielsville, and moving northeast at 55 mph.

Locations to be impacted include...
Anderson, Easley, Clemson, Seneca, Hartwell, Pickens, Homeland Park,
Central, Northlake and Pendleton.

Wind gusts up to 45 mph and pea size hail will be possible in these
areas.

Greenville, Greer, Mauldin, Taylors, Simpsonville and Berea.
