warning for the following rivers in Southwest Lower Michigan...
Grand River At Ada affecting Kent County
Grand River At Grand Rapids affecting Kent County
Pine River At Alma affecting Gratiot County
.River levels continue to rise across Southwest Lower Michigan due
to, recent rain and snow melt, especially over the Grand River basin.
This will lead to some of the highest crests in quite some time.
Residents should be aware of rising river levels and the impacts it
will have on their businesses and personal properties. Flooding is
now imminent along nearly the entire stretch of the Grand River and
associated tributaries. The following forecast is based on observed
and forecast 24 hour precipitation.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Safety message... Even 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock
you off your feet, and a depth of 2 feet will float your car. Never
try to walk, swim, or drive through such swift water. If you come
upon flood waters, stop, turn around and go another way.
These warnings will be in effect until the rivers fall below their
flood stages.

.The Grand River is expected to crest at Lansing Saturday morning.
Portland is in the process of cresting right now, and this moves
down toward Ionia by tomorrow night. The crest moves through Kent
County by the end of the weekend, and finally Ottawa County. We are
still expecting moderate flooding in Comstock Park. Numerous roads in
the vicinity of the Grand River in Kent County will be closed due to
flooding. The Red Cedar River in East Lansing is also leading to
numerous road closures at this time. Various other road closures
along rivers that have reached flood stage are occurring. Check with
local authorities about road closures and alternative routes.

precipitation.

cresting in Hastings on Sunday. Thunderstorms are possible on Monday
though it is uncertain if enough rain will fall to cause any
additional rises. The rainfall may just act to slow the recession on

This additional rain and melted snow should boost river levels even more. The crest on the Grand River will be moving from east to west over the next several days. Minor flooding will be impacting the city of Lansing, with near flood stage in Ionia and just below flood in Grand Rapids.
