.PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 354 AM EDT Sat Jul 8 2017/

SHORT TERM /Today through Sunday/...
Short term forecast largely dominated by two features. Weak boundary
has settled over middle Georgia, evident on the water vapor imagery
as enhanced moisture extends from the northern Gulf coast across
Georgia and east of the Appalachians and along the mid-Atlantic
coast. The second feature is another cold front draped across the
Ohio Valley, which models expect to sag southward into north Georgia
today. This front is already serving as a focus for showers and
thunderstorms this morning in Tennessee, and have kept pop chances
higher in north Georgia to account for the expected coverage as the
front drops into the state. Expect storm coverage today to be
highest in far north Georgia due to this feature, and over middle
Georgia as the former boundary confines the best moisture to the
southern CWA. Have highlighted these two areas in the pop and wx
grids as a result. Even with the developing low ceilings this
morning, expect cloud coverage to improve by mid to late morning,
allowing for sufficient insolation and an increasingly unstable air
mass for some clusters of storms, some strong. At this time, SPC has
the area outlooked in a Marginal Risk for severe storms, with the
main concern being damaging winds, heavy rain, and frequent
lightning. Small hail is also possible.

Temperatures remain near seasonal normals, and have used a guidance
blend through the short term.

LONG TERM /Sunday Night through Friday/...
The stationary front across the area to start the long term
is expected to dissipate on Monday with just a lingering surface
trough remaining. Shower and thunderstorm chances will favor
central GA Sunday night...creeping north slightly but still
favoring central GA on Monday.

The upper ridge builds over the area for the rest of the long term
with the main high centers well east and west of the area. The moist
airmass over central GA will spread across the entire forecast area.
This will lead to highly diurnal shower and thunderstorm chances the
rest of the long term period as a rather typical summertime
airmass predominates.

Forecast temperatures are expected to run within 3 degrees of
normal this long term period.

12Z Update...
SCT-BKN IFR cigs will improve through mid morning. Expect SCT CU
and mid level clouds through the afternoon. Diurnal thunderstorm
potential highest 18-00z and have converted previous PROB30 to
TEMPO for -TSRA. Winds will stay on the west side, with speeds of
8-10kt today, and 6kt or less overnight. A shift to the NE is
possible at the tail end of the TAF period.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of North and Central Georgia.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight...

A weak frontal boundary will sag south across much of north and
central Georgia today. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are
expected to develop along and south of this boundary. Strong
thunderstorms are likely, with a few becoming severe. The main
hazards will be damaging winds, large hail and frequent lightning.
Locally heavy rainfall will also be possible.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday...

There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms each day, favoring
central Georgia Sunday and Monday, and most so during the afternoon
and evening hours. A few storms could be strong to severe with
gusty winds and frequent lightning the main hazards.
Hail and locally heavy rainfall will also be possible.

Heat Index values may approach 105 degrees in the southeast
portion of the outlook area during the middle to late part of next
week.

At 153 PM EDT...a strong thunderstorm was near Cohutta Wilderness,
or 13 miles south of Benton. Another strong storm was centered near
Ramhurst. Both storms were moving east at 10 mph.

  HAZARD...40 to 50 mph wind...pea sized hail and frequent cloud to
           ground lightning.

  IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
           light...unsecured objects.

Some locations in the path of this storm include
Chatsworth, Eton, Crandall, Tails Creek, Ramhurst, Jones Mill,
Cohutta Wilderness, Conasauga Lake, Tennga, Cisco, Mountaintown, Fort
Mountain State Park and Roundtop.
