The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Wyandotte County in northeastern Kansas...
  Leavenworth County in northeastern Kansas...
  Northern Johnson County in east central Kansas...
  Southeastern Platte County in west central Missouri...
  Jackson County in west central Missouri...

* Until 345 AM CDT

* At 950 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms with heavy 
  rainfall overspreading the area. Rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches 
  per hour are expected with this area of storms as it moves into 
  the region. Some areas, especially just north of the Missouri 
  river in southern Platte and Clay counties have already seen as 
  much as 4 to 5 inches of rain from storms earlier in the day and 
  with the newer activity moving into the area. Flash Flooding is 
  likely to occur through the warning area tonight.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Kansas City, Overland Park, Independence, Lee's Summit, Shawnee,
  Blue Springs, Lenexa, Leawood, Raytown, Prairie Village, Grain
  Valley, Lansing, Merriam, Mission, Oak Grove, Bonner Springs, De
  Soto, Parkville, Tonganoxie and Basehor.

This includes the following highways...
 Interstate 70 in Missouri between mile markers 0 and 28.
 Interstate 70 in Kansas between mile markers 410 and 423.
 Interstate 35 in Missouri between mile markers 0 and 4.
 Interstate 35 in Kansas between mile markers 223 and 235.
 Interstate 29 between mile markers 3 and 7.
 Interstate 635 between mile markers 0 and 12.
 Interstate 470 between mile markers 11 and 16.
 Interstate 435 between mile markers 2 and 23, and between mile
markers 57 and 70.
 Kansas Turnpike between mile markers 206 and 226.

...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 345 AM CDT FOR
WYANDOTTE...LEAVENWORTH...NORTHERN JOHNSON...SOUTHEASTERN PLATTE AND
JACKSON COUNTIES...

At 1116 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated 
that heavy rain was falling over the area.  Radar estimates that 
many areas have seen between 3 and 6 inches of rainfall. Automated 
gauges show similar rainfall amounts. Additionally there have been 
numerous reports of flash flooding is already occurring throughout 
the warned area. Rainfall is expected to continue through the night 
and it's possible another 2 to 4 inches of rain will fall before 
sunrise.

Kansas City, Overland Park, Independence, Lee's Summit, Shawnee, Blue
