06Z surface data has the main cold front running from a low near
KLSE back into far northeast Kansas. Dew points were in the 50s
along and ahead of the front with 30s and 40s behind the front.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and Tonight)
ISSUED AT 245 AM CDT Sun Apr 16 2017

Through sunrise, rain will end from west to east across the area as
the cold front moves through the area.

For Sunday and Sunday night quiet and dry conditions will be seen
across the area as high pressure builds into the Midwest.
Temperatures should average above normal.

.LONG TERM...(Monday through Saturday)
ISSUED AT 245 AM CDT Sun Apr 16 2017

The start of the work week will begin quiet but the weather pattern
is then expected to turn much more active the remainder of the week.
Precipitation has the potential to average well above normal.

Quiet and dry conditions will continue Monday and Monday night as
high pressure slowly moves into the Ohio Valley. Temperatures will
continue to average above normal.

Tuesday/Tuesday night the next cold front will move through the
area. The models disagree on the overall timing of the front. These
differences appear to be related to the strength of the high over
the Great Lakes.

The current model consensus has slight chance to chance pops for
mainly Tuesday afternoon and chance pops Tuesday night.

Wednesday on...

The global model solutions diverge on their respective solutions in
the Wednesday through Saturday time frame. Some of this difference
can be attributed to the strength of the high pressure systems that
will be over the Great Lakes following the passage of a system.

Wednesday/Wednesday night the ECMWF/GFS have a rather potent system
moving through the Midwest. The ECMWF/GFS have the better
precipitation chances across the northern half of the area. The CMC
global has a potent system but it is further north with the southern
parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin having the best chances for
precipitation.

The signal that is there in all the model solutions is for a
potential heavy rain event Wednesday night. Where this heavy rain
falls will be important.

The current model consensus has chance to likely pops on Wednesday
with the higher pops across the northwest third of the area.
Wednesday night the model consensus has chance to categorical pops
with the highest pops across the northern half of the area.

Depending upon the timing of the Wednesday system, there may or may
not be lingering rain into Thursday morning. Right now the model
consensus has slight chance to chance pops for much of the area
Thursday morning with mainly dry condtions Thursday afternoon.

Thursday night/Friday the model consensus has mainly dry conditions
for the area as the next high pressure moves into the Great Lakes.

Friday night through Saturday night the next storm system will
affect the Midwest. Again, the global models have differences in the
timing and track of the system which is partially attributed to the
strength of the high over the Great Lakes. However, the models are
suggesting the potential for another heavy rain event. Unlike the
mid-week system, there is loose agreement suggesting the south half
of the area is more favored for heavy rainfall.

Right now the model consensus has chance to likely pops Friday night
through Saturday night. The highest pops are across the south half
of the area.

.AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Monday Morning)
ISSUED AT 624 AM CDT Sun Apr 16 2017

Cold front was near the Mississippi river at 11z/16 with an area
of IFR cigs around it. Conditions will improve to VFR through
18z/16 across eastern Iowa and northern Illinois. After 18z/16
expect VFR conditions through 12z/17 as high pressure slowly
moves through the Midwest.

.HYDROLOGY...
Issued at 245 AM CDT Sun Apr 16 2017

Heavy rains within the past 24 hours will lead to mostly within
bank rises across portions of the HSA. However, will be keeping
close eye on portions of the Wapsipinicon, Maquoketa, Cedar and
Iowa rivers for the chance of minor flooding as portions of these
basins received anywhere from 1 to over 3 inches of rain per
radar estimates and also several ground truth reports. As more
ground truth rainfall data is gathered and routed flow is better
assessed over the next 12-24 hrs then will be able to better
determine the potential for any flooding along these tributary
rivers. A flood watch has already been issued for the Iowa River
at Marengo, which is currently anticipated to rise to flood stage
toward midweek, but this is based off forecasted rainfall from
this recent event and also routed flow upstream, but not based on
observed data so would anticipate further changes.

Wednesday through Saturday...

The global models are currently suggesting two heavy rain events the
second half of the week. One Wednesday night and the other around
Saturday. How much rain falls and where it falls will be important.
If these heavy rain events occur then area rivers will be on the
rise with an increased potential for flooding.
