.SYNOPSIS...
An upper level trough will prevail over the Mid Atlantic today
and Sunday. This trough will gradually lift to the northeast
early next week as high pressure builds across the Southeast.
&&
.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
The current surface analysis places 991mb low pressure over
central PA associated with a vigorous trough over the Ern Conus.
GOES WV imagery depicts a moist frontal band now well offshore,
with a shortwave trough pivoting around the base of the main
upper low, which is centered near Lake Erie. Clouds are
increasing over the Piedmont with a few light showers pushing
into Mecklenburg/Lunenburg counties. Central portions of the
area area mostly clear, with some lingering high clouds along
the coast. Temperatures as of 4 am are generally in the mid 50s
to around 60.
This trough will lift newd across the Mid-Atlantic today
bringing considerable cloud cover along with a chc of showers.
PoPs will be highest across the N, 30-50%, with 20-30% across
srn VA/NE NC. Timing will generally be late morning through mid
aftn for the piedmont I-95 corridor, and aftn through early
evening farther E. Instability is minimal despite cold
temperatures aloft, so have opted not to include thunder. 850mb
temperatures gradually fall through the day to around 3-5C by
21z, so forecast highs are only in the mid/upper 60s. Breezy
today with a WSW wind of 15-20 mph with gusts to 25-30 mph.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH MONDAY/...
The upper low lifts into srn ON tonight, with a secondary
shortwave trough pushing across the Carolinas. This will produce
mostly cloudy conditions across the srn half of the area, with
partly cloudy conditions N. PoPs remain low, mainly 20-30% for
far srn VA/NE NC, with ~40% for coastal NE NC. Lows range from
the mid 40s NW to the low 50s SE.
The upper low slowly continues to lift NE Sunday with yet
another shortwave trough pivoting around the base of the trough.
Forecast soundings are drier by this point, but there should
still be enough forcing for at least a 15-30% PoP, mainly across
the Ern Shore Sunday aftn/early evening. Partly cloudy to
occasionally mostly cloudy NE. Temperatures remain below normal
as 850mb temperatures drop to 1-3C, which when fully mixed
yields highs in the mid 60s to upper 60s SE.
The upper trough will gradually lift farther NE of the area
Sunday night into Monday as surface high pressure builds across
the Southeast. PoPs drop below 15% with dry NW flow behind the
departing upper low. Mostly clear and cool Sunday night with
lows in the upper 30s across the NW Piedmont to the low/mid 40s
for much of the area, and upper 40s for far SE portions. Partly
to mostly sunny Monday with highs remaining in the 60s.

Stacked low continues to spin over the NE CONUS with an

upper low sitting over the Intermountain West. Ridge over cntrl
U.S. is expected to break down (or deamplify) Tuesday night
through Wednesday night. As this occurs, the low over the
Intermountain West will begin to track ewd as the NE CONUS low
retrogrades and flattens out as upper level flow across the Mid
Atlantic becomes more WNW. This set-up will allow a potential
series of weather disturbances to pass across the area Wednesday
through the rest of the week (primarily the swrn half of the CWA
per 05/1200Z model runs). Conditions will remain unseasonably
cool throughout the long term periods. Lows generally in the
mid 40s to mid 50s Tue-Wed nights. Lows Thu night in the 50s.
Highs Wed-Fri in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

Low pressure will lift nwd across PA/NY early this morning as a
potent upper level trough digs across the Ohio Valley. This
upper level system will pass across the region later this
morning into the aftn bringing sct showers along with bkn-ovc
cigs ~3.5kft, with some 2-3kft MVFR cigs possible later this
morning. A SW wind of 10-15kt with occasional gusts to ~20kt
will continue through 12-14z and then increase to ~15kt with
gusts to ~25kt through the aftn. A secondary trough will pass
across the Carolinas tonight and this could trigger a few
showers across far SE VA/NE NC along with a period of bkn-ovc
cigs of 5-8kft. A trough remains over the East Coast Sunday into
Monday. A minimal chc of shower will linger along the coast
Sunday aftn, with drier air prevailing Sunday night into Monday.
A trough lingers over New England Tuesday into Wednesday as a
ridge builds across the Gulf Coast. A few weak low pressure
systems are forecast to track along a frontal boundary in
vicinity of the Carolinas, but the chc for showers remains low.

Update...SCA flags for Ches Bay and Currituck Sound have been
extended through 900 PM this evening. Otherwise, remaining
headlines are in good shape regarding end times. A brief lull in
winds are anticipated late this aftn with another quick surge
during the early evening hours before winds diminish below SCA
thresholds.

SCA's remain in effect for all waters thru at least this aftn,
but did extend the SCA for the nrn two cstl zones thru this
evening due to seas staying up longer in these areas. Low
pressure over PA early this morning, will lift nwrd into ern
Canada today thru Sun. High pressure will then build down into
the area for Mon thru Tue. Expect SW winds 15 to 25 kt with
gusts up to 30 kt thru this aftn, then becoming W 10 to 15 kt
tngt behind a sfc trough. Seas will be 4-8 ft this morning, then
subside to 2 to 4 ft late tngt/early Sun morning. Waves 3-4 ft
in the Bay, will subside to 1 to 3 ft. WNW winds mainly 10 to 15
kt expected for Sun and Mon. NW or N winds arnd 10 kt or less

Tide levels at Cambridge peaked at 3.5 ft and Bishops Head
peaked near 3.6 ft overnight. Water levels will remain elevated
at bit today with Cambridge/Bishops Head potentially within 0.5

into Sun, which will allow tidal anomalies to slowly diminish.
