Short Range (Today - Monday night):

Very pleasant conditions are expected across the area through the
short term as we dry out from the recent very wet pattern. A
seasonably strong upper level trough moving through the Upper
Midwest this morning has pushed a cold front through the area.
Surface high pressure will build into the region today with much
less humid conditions as dewpoints will reside in the low to mid
50s. Couple that with cool northwest winds and expect highs in the
low to mid 70s. Winds will subside tomorrow evening and with clear
skies overnight lows will drop into the low to mid 50s. Surface high
pressure will remain in control early on Sunday however WAA will
being late in the afternoon allowing highs to rise into the mid to
upper 70s. Sunday night into Monday a upper level trough will move
across the Canadian Plains forcing a weak cold front towards the
area. Thunderstorms are expected to develop along the front late
Monday afternoon across northeastern Kansas. At this time it appears
a few strong storms can not be ruled out with steep lapse rates and
moderate instability. However, forcing will be weak as will the
shear. The front will slowly push through the area Monday night
overspreading storms over the CWA. PWATs will again be in the 1.75"-
2.00" range making for efficient rain makers. Given antecedent
conditions and potential ongoing river flooding...additional
flooding may be possible.

Medium Range (Tuesday - Friday):

Some model difference as we head into the medium range make the
forecast tricky. The NAM and European models what to stall the
aforementioned cold front across the area on Tuesday continuing
storm chances whereas the GFS pushes the front south with just the
chance for storms across the extreme southern CWA. With the upper
level forcing positioned well to the north into Ontario have sided
with the slower front progression depicted by the NAM and EC.
Consequently, have chance storms in the forecast for Tuesday into
Tuesday night before exiting the area Wednesday. However, dry
conditions will not last long as another system digging from the
northern Rockies into the High Plains Wednesday night in Thursday
will force yet another cold front towards the area. This will bring
another round of storms to the area late Wednesday night into
Thursday. Storm chance will then continue into Friday as the upper
level trough slows down and develops a closed low as it moves into
the northern Plains. this will slow the progress of its attendant
surface cold front and prolong storm chances. Temperatures through
the week will range in the 70s which is some 5 to 10 degrees below
normal.

Light to moderate rain still prevailed at the terminals around
midnight, and will likely persist for another couple of hours before
the upper level trough swings through and starts pushing the rain to
the south and east early this morning. After that, the dry north wind
will sweep through and help lift and clear clouds out by sunrise
Saturday with a persistent north wind expected through the day and
into the overnight hours.
