NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A NARROW BAND OF HEAVY SNOW FROM STERLING AND ROCK FALLS ILLINOIS TO MONMOUTH ILLINOIS...AND MOVING EAST. THE SNOW WAS ABOUT 20 MILES WIDE AND LASTS LESS THAN AN HOUR AT ANY GIVEN LOCATION. VISIBILITY WILL BE RAPIDLY REDUCED TO LESS THAN 1/2 MILE AND THERE WILL BE SLUSHY ACCUMULATION OF UP TO AN INCH ON ROADWAYS DUE TO THE RAPID RATE OF THE SNOWFALL. REPORTS OF SNOWFLAKES LARGER THAN THE SIZE OF QUARTERS WAS BEING OBSERVED. FOLLOWING THE HEAVY SNOW THERE MAY BE SOME LINGERING LIGHT SNOW THROUGH THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON BEFORE ENDING. WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE 30S MUCH OF THE SNOW WILL BE MELTED BY LATE THIS AFTERNOON. ROADS...BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES MAY BE SLICK AND HAZARDOUS WITH THE RAPID SNOW ACCUMULATIONS.
