evening. The river will fall below flood stage early Tuesday
morning.
* Impact...At 32.0 feet...Minor flooding can be expected along both
banks. Road A near the gage site becomes flooded especially south
of the river.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WICHITA KS 327 AM CDT SAT AUG 3 2013 .SHORT TERM...(TODAY THROUGH MONDAY) ISSUED AT 325 AM CDT SAT AUG 3 2013 TODAY-TONIGHT: CURRENT MESOSCALE CONVECTIVE SYSTEM (MCS) IS MAKING SLOW PROGRESS ACROSS THE ERN HALF OF THE FORECAST AREA THIS MORNING...WITH SOME LINGERING MOISTURE TRANSPORT ON THE WRN EDGE OF THIS SYSTEM KEEPING THE STRATIFORM SHOWERS GOING AS FAR WEST AS KICT. EXPECT A GENERAL DECREASE IN THE PRECIP SHIELD FROM WEST TO EAST AS THE MORNING CONTINUES WITH MOST OF THE SHOWERS/STORMS ENDING DURING THE MORNING HOURS...AS THE MOISTURE TRANSPORT VEERS OUT INTO SW MO. EXPECT ANOTHER HUMID AFTERNOON AS A TROPICAL AIRMASS REMAINS IN PLACE OVER THE AREA. THIS HUMID AIR WILL BE IN PLACE AS THE MAIN SFC BOUNDARY LOOKS TO SAG SOUTH ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA BY LATE THIS AFTERNOON/EARLY THIS EVENING...WITH THE MID LEVEL BAROCLINIC ZONE ALSO DROPPING INTO THIS AREA ARE WELL. 850-700H MOISTURE TRANSPORT LOOKS TO INCREASE OVER THE TOP OF THIS SFC BOUNDARY AGAIN THIS EVENING...JUST TO THE WEST OF COUNTY WARNING AREA...SIMILAR TO LAST NIGHTS INITIATION REGION. SO EXPECT STORMS TO DEVELOP OVER AREAS JUST WEST OF THE FORECAST AREA...AND AGAIN PROPAGATE STRAIGHT EAST ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA...MAINLY ALONG THE TIGHT 850H THETA-E GRADIENT EXPECTED TO SITUATED JUST TO THE NORTH OF HIGHWAY 54/400. COULD SEE SOME STRONG TO MARGINALLY SVR STORMS AGAIN INITIALLY WITH BULK SHEAR OF 35-40 KTS AND A VERY UNSTABLE AIRMASS (SBCAPE 3500-4000 J/KG) EXPECTED AGAIN TO POOL ALONG THIS BOUNDARY. THINK THE STORMS WILL CONGEAL ONCE AGAIN INTO ANOTHER FORWARD PROPAGATING HEAVY RAIN PRODUCING MCS TONIGHT ACROSS MOST OF SOUTHERN KS. PRECIP WATER VALUES REMAIN IN THE 150-200 PERCENT OF NORMAL RANGE...SO CERTAINLY COULD SEE ANOTHER ROUND OF HEAVY RAINFALL AND POSSIBLE FLOODING. SO FLOOD WATCH STILL LOOKS REASONABLE. ESPECIALLY ALONG A KHUT-KEMP LINE THAT HAS BEEN HIT VERY HARD BY RECENT RAINFALL. THIS WILL LEAD TO ADDITIONAL RIVER RISES AND POSSIBLE RENEWED FLOODING. SUN: WARMER AIR ALOFT WILL EITHER WASHOUT OR PUSH THE MAIN SYNOPTIC BOUNDARY BACK TO THE NORTH FOR SUN AFTN. THIS WILL PUSH THE MAIN SHOWER/STORM CHANCES BACK TO THE NORTH INTO NRN KS/SRN NEB FOR SUN EVE/NIGHT. THINK SOME STORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE ALONG OR JUST NORTH OF I-70...BUT AREAS ACROSS SOUTH CEN KS WILL GET A CHANCE TO DRY OUT. MON: WARMER MID LEVEL TEMPS WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD INTO THE AREA FOR THE START OF THE WORK WEEK.
