URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 310
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
850 PM CDT THU MAY 19 2011

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

TORNADOES...HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND
GUSTS TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE
AREAS.

THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 70 STATUTE
MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 50 MILES NORTHWEST OF
CONCORDIA KANSAS TO 30 MILES SOUTHWEST OF MEDICINE LODGE KANSAS.
FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE ASSOCIATED WATCH
OUTLINE UPDATE (WOUS64 KWNS WOU0).

REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR

AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.

OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...THIS TORNADO WATCH REPLACES TORNADO

DISCUSSION...THUNDERSTORMS ARE INCREASING IN COVERAGE/INTENSITY

RAIN-COOLED OUTFLOW THAT SOMEWHAT STABILIZED THE BOUNDARY
LAYER...BUT NOT TO THE EXTENT THE SURFACE-BASED INSTABILITY WAS
REMOVED. THEREFORE...THE PERSISTENCE OF STEEP MIDLEVEL LAPSE RATES
ABOVE REMAINING BOUNDARY LAYER DEWPOINTS IN THE 60S WILL SUPPORT
MODERATE INSTABILITY...IN A VERTICAL SHEAR ENVIRONMENT THAT IS
FAVORABLE FOR SUPERCELLS. LARGE HAIL WILL BE THE PRIMARY THREAT N
OF THE WARM FRONT ALONG I-70...WHILE DAMAGING WINDS AND A COUPLE OF
TORNADOES WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE FARTHER S IN KS AS THE LLJ
STRENGTHENS THIS EVENING AND SURFACE-BASED INSTABILITY PERSISTS TO
THE N/NW OF THE DEEPER/STRONGER COLD POOL ACROSS WRN OK.
