AREAS AFFECTED...ERN NY THROUGH MUCH OF NEW ENGLAND

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 347...

VALID 052017Z - 052145Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 347
CONTINUES.

THREAT FOR MAINLY ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND AND LARGE HAIL WILL LIKELY
PERSIST NEXT FEW HOURS FROM ERN NY THROUGH MUCH OF NEW ENGLAND.

THIS AFTERNOON A COLD FRONT EXTENDS FROM W CNTRL NY SWWD INTO ERN
PA. A PRE-FRONTAL TROUGH EXTENDS FROM VT SWD THROUGH SRN NEW
ENGLAND. NUMEROUS STORMS CONTINUE DEVELOPING IN WEAKLEY CAPPED WARM
SECTOR ALONG AND EAST OF THESE BOUNDARIES WITHIN ZONE OF ASCENT
ATTENDING NEWD EJECTING SHORTWAVE TROUGH. STRONGEST STORMS CURRENTLY
EXIST ACROSS PORTIONS OF NEW ENGLAND. THIS ACTIVITY APPEARS TO BE
MOVING THROUGH AXIS OF HIGHER INSTABILITY WITHIN BELT OF STRONGER
UPPER FLOW AND DEEP LAYER SHEAR ASSOCIATED WITH LEAD VORT MAX.

FARTHER WEST ACROSS CNTRL AND ERN NY...STORMS ARE DEVELOPING ALONG
AND JUST AHEAD OF PRIMARY COLD FRONT. HOWEVER...THESE STORMS ARE IN
AN ENVIRONMENT OF WEAKER INSTABILITY AND DEEP SHEAR SUPPORTIVE OF
MAINLY MULTICELLS. SOME THREAT FOR LOCALIZED DOWNBURSTS AND HAIL MAY
ALSO EXIST WITH THIS ACTIVITY...BUT THREAT WITH THESE STORMS IS
EXPECTED TO REMAIN MORE MARGINAL THAN FARTHER EAST.
