Slidell Radar S, LA (KSIL), launched 00:00Z, 8.4 hours before the alert went out and 189 km from the middle of its area. This is the routine balloon launch nearest before it, the air the forecaster had in hand, not a measurement taken for the alert.

AREAS AFFECTED...CNTRL AND SWRN AL...FAR SRN MS...FAR SERN LA

CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 8...

VALID 060824Z - 061000Z

CONVECTIVE LINE CURRENTLY EXTENDS FROM NERN AL SWD THROUGH SWRN
AL...SRN MS AND FAR SRN LA. THE LINE WILL CONTINUE MOVING SLOWLY EWD
AND WILL HAVE AN ISOLATED TORNADO THREAT AND WIND DAMAGE THREAT AS
IT EVENTUALLY MOVES INTO SERN AL AND WRN GA LATE TONIGHT.

THE CONVECTIVE LINE IS CURRENTLY DEVELOPING AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT
WITH A MOIST AXIS EXTENDING NWD ACROSS THE FL PANHANDLE INTO CNTRL
AL WHERE MID 60 F SFC DEWPOINTS EXIST. THIS IS RESULTING IN ENOUGH
INSTABILITY WHICH SHOULD KEEP THE LINE GOING FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL
HOURS. WATER VAPOR IMAGERY CURRENTLY SHOWS A SHORTWAVE TROUGH MOVING
NEWD ACROSS NRN AL. AS THIS WAVE MOVES AWAY FROM THE
LINE...LARGE-SCALE ASCENT WILL DECREASE WHICH MAY RESULT IN THE LINE
WEAKENING SOMEWHAT OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS. HOWEVER...70 KT OF DEEP
LAYER SHEAR...0-1 KM OF SR HELICITY AND SUFFICIENT LOW-LEVEL
MOISTURE SHOULD KEEP THE LINE STRONG ENOUGH TO PRESENT AN ISOLATED
TORNADO THREAT OR WIND DAMAGE THREAT WITH BOW ECHOS EMBEDDED IN THE
LINE. IF THE LINE CAN REMAIN SUSTAINED AT CURRENT LEVELS...A NEW
WATCH MAY BECOME NECESSARY EAST OF THE CURRENT WATCH ACROSS SWRN GA
AND SERN AL.
