MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0565
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0517 PM CDT THU APR 24 2003

AREAS AFFECTED...SERN LA / SERN MS / SWRN AL

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL

VALID 242217Z - 250015Z

LOCAL SEVERE THREAT IS EXPECTED TO PERSIST ACROSS A SMALL AREA FROM
SERN LA INTO FAR SWRN AL...BUT WW NOT ANTICIPATED ATTM DUE AS THREAT
SHOULD REMAIN LIMITED FROM BOTH AN AREAL AND A TEMPORAL PERSPECTIVE.

LATEST SURFACE ANALYSIS SHOWS AN APPARENT WARM FRONT FROM WRN MS
SSEWD ACROSS FAR SERN LA...WITH A SECONDARY / OUTFLOW BOUNDARY
ACROSS CENTRAL MS INTO SRN AL.	SOUTH OF THE CONVECTIVE
BOUNDARY...AIRMASS REMAINS MOIST AND MODERATELY UNSTABLE...WITH
MEAN-LAYER CAPE 1000-2000 J/KG ATTM.

DEEP-LAYER WIND FIELD REMAINS MODERATELY STRONG WITH SOME VEERING
EVIDENT AT LOW LEVELS PARTICULARLY ACROSS SERN MS WHERE SURFACE FLOW
IS SOMEWHAT BACKED NORTH OF WARM FRONT. THIS FAVORABLE COMBINATION
OF CAPE AND SHEAR IS SUPPORTING AN ISOLATED SUPERCELL NOW
APPROACHING SRN PORTIONS OF FORREST AND PERRY COUNTIES IN SERN MS.
THIS REMAINS THE ONLY SIGNIFICANT STORM ACROSS THIS REGION...AND
WIDESPREAD ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT IS NOT ANTICIPATED OVER THIS
REGION. THEREFORE...ALTHOUGH A THREAT FOR LOCALLY DAMAGING WINDS OR
HAIL AND PERHAPS A BRIEF TORNADO WITH THIS STORM...LIMITED THREAT
BEYOND THIS STORM SUGGESTS THAT WW WILL NOT BE REQUIRED.
