NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

AREAS AFFECTED...SRN IL / SWRN IND / WRN KY

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL

VALID 171848Z - 172045Z

DEVELOPING TSTMS WILL POSE A LARGE HAIL/DAMAGING WIND THREAT AND A
NEW WW WILL LIKELY BE REQUIRED SOON W OF WW 865.

EVV RADAR IMAGERY AND VISIBLE SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOW TSTMS BEGINNING
TO DEVELOP OVER CLARK CO IL AND VIGO CO IND IN A ZONE OF LOCALIZED
LOW-LEVEL CONVERGENCE TO THE NE OF A SURFACE LOW OVER S-CNTRL IL.
HERE...MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES HAVE ALLOWED TEMPERATURES TO WARM INTO THE
LOWER 90S AND WHEN COUPLED WITH SURFACE DEWPOINTS IN THE UPPER 60S
TO LOWER 70S AND MODERATELY COOL MID-LEVEL TEMPERATURES /-9 TO -10 C
AT 500MB/ IS RESULTING IN MLCAPES OF 2000-3000 J/KG.

CURRENT WATER VAPOR IMAGERY CLEARLY SHOWS A VORTICITY MAX DIVING SWD
THROUGH NRN/CNTRL IL AND THIS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE LOW-LEVEL
CONVERGENCE INVOF THE SURFACE LOW AND WEAK FRONTAL BOUNDARY SHOULD
BE SUFFICIENT TO SUSTAIN THE DEVELOPING STORMS. FURTHERMORE...RUC
DIAGNOSTIC FIELDS INDICATE THAT AN AXIS OF STRONGER MID AND
UPPER-LEVEL WINDS IS ROTATING AROUND THE WRN SIDE OF THIS VORTICITY
CENTER...EFFECTIVELY ENHANCING THE DEEP-LAYER SHEAR ACROSS THE WARM
SECTOR. GIVEN THESE FACTORS...ORGANIZED TSTMS APPEAR LIKELY WITH THE
POTENTIAL FOR SOME STORMS TO EXHIBIT SUPERCELL STRUCTURES.
