THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WICHITA HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  SEDGWICK COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL KANSAS

* UNTIL 200 AM CDT

* AT 1000 PM CDT...PUBLIC AND LAW ENFORCEMENT REPORTS WIDESPREAD 
FLOODING ACROSS WICHITA AND SEDGWICK COUNTY. MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINS 
WILL CONTINUE TO FALL AT THE RATE OF BETWEEN ONE AND TWO INCHES PER 
HOUR THROUGH 11 PM. THIS IS IN ADDITION TO THE 2 TO 4 INCHES THAT 
HAS FALLEN TODAY ACROSS THE COUNTY. THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING 
SITUATION. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DRIVE, STAY OFF OF THE ROADS.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM THIS STORM WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...URBAN AREAS...ROADS AND AREAS WITH POOR
DRAINAGE. BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT...WHEN IT IS HARDER TO
RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING
IS OBSERVED... MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS.

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING...OR IS
IMMINENT. MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS ROADS COVERED BY WATER.

...A FLASH FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES FOR SEDGWICK COUNTY UNTIL 200 AM
CDT...

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED MORE HEAVY RAINFALL 
WILL MOVE ACROSS ALREADY FLOODED AREAS OF WICHITA. ANOTHER INCH OF 
RAINFALL IS POSSIBLE WITH THE NEXT ROUND OF HEAVY RAIN. 

SOME LOCATIONS AFFECTED INCLUDE MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE...BEL
AIRE...BENTLEY...COLWICH...EAST WICHITA AND GODDARD.

AT 1017 PM CDT LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS REPORTED NUMEROUS LOCATIONS 
IN WEST WICHITA HAD UP TO 2 FEET OF WATER OVER THE ROADS.  SOME 
LOCATIONS WITH REPORTS OF STALLED CARS WERE AT CENTRAL AND RIDGE 
ROADS AND 13TH AND TYLER ROADS.  AVOID DRIVING IN PORTIONS OF WEST 
WICHITA AS ROADS ARE IMPASSIBLE. 

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT...WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED...
MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS.
