NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX
1145 PM CDT MON JUL 1 2002

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN AUSTIN SAN ANTONIO HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES...
  TRAVIS
  HAYS
  COMAL
  BEXAR
  KENDALL

* UNTIL 4 AM CDT

* AT 1145 PM...WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED VERY HEAVY    
  RAIN EXTENDING FROM SAN ANTONIO AND BOERNE ALONG AND EITHER SIDE   
  OF THE INTERSTATE 35 CORRIDOR PAST NEW BRAUNFELS AND SAN MARCOS TO 
  AUSTIN.  RAINFALL RATES BETWEEN 1 AND 2 INCHES PER HOUR CAN BE     
  EXPECTED AS THESE STORMS DRIFT SLOWLY TOWARD THE NORTHEAST.  SINCE 
  THE GROUND IS SUPER-SATURATED FROM PREVIOUS DELUGES...THIS         
  ADDITIONAL RAIN WILL NOT SOAK IN BUT RUN OFF QUICKLY INTO ALREADY  
  SWOLLEN AND FLOODED CREEKS...LOW-WATER CROSSINGS AND RIVERS.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM THESE STORMS WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING OF 
CREEKS...HIGHWAYS AND UNDERPASSES.  ADDITIONALLY...COUNTRY ROADS AND 
FARMLANDS ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS AND OTHER LOW-LYING AREAS ARE 
SUBJECT TO FLASH FLOODING.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE 
DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS.  IF FLASH FLOODING IS 
OBSERVED...ACT QUICKLY.  MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD 
WATERS.  DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS 
RISING.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE 
ROADWAY.  THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS
SAFELY.  VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE ABANDONED QUICKLY 
IF SAFE TO DO SO.  MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
