AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BUFFALO NY 954 AM EDT FRI MAY 31 2002 THE STAGE IS SET FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF SOME ACTIVE CONVECTION ACROSS PARTS OF OUR FA THIS AFTERNOON. THIS MORNINGS PREFRONTAL CONVECTION WILL CLEAR THE GENESEE VALLEY BY NOONTIME AND THE NORTH COUNTRY DURING THE EARLY AFTERNOON. THE COMBINATION OF INCREASING SUNSHINE...STRONG LOW LEVEL MOISTURE CONVERGENCE AHEAD OF THE COLD FRONT AND THE ADDED LIFT AHEAD OF THE APPROACHING JET MAX SHOULD LEAD TO SOME ORGANIZED CONVECTION THIS AFTERNOON. RIGHT NOW...IT LOOKS LIKE THE SOUTHERN TIER...THE GENESEE VALLEY AND FINGER LAKES AREA WILL HAVE THE BEST SHOT FOR STRONG THUNDERSTORMS. THE BOUNDARIES LEFT OVER FROM THIS MORNINGS CONVECTION WILL HELP TO FOCUS THE STORMS. THE STRONG SOUTHWEST FLOW OFF OF LAKE ERIE WILL STABILIZE THE AIR ENOUGH TO PRECLUDE THE DEVELOPMENT OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS JUST DOWNWIND OF THE LAKE. .BUF...NONE. TJP
