NORTHEAST OREGON/SOUTHEAST WASHINGTON FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PENDLETON OR 825 AM PDT WED JUL 11 2001 SHORTWAVE MOVING OVER THE FORECAST AREA AT THIS TIME IS SETTING OFF SCATTERED SHOWERS FROM THE COLUMBIA BASIN EASTWARD. THE NEXT SHORT WAVE TO MOVE THROUGH THE FORECAST AREA THIS AFTERNOON IS CURRENTLY OVER THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA/SOUTHWEST OREGON COAST AT THIS TIME. LIGHTNING STRIKES ARE ALREADY EVIDENT IN THIS LOCATION ON THE LIGHTNING PLOT. A CLEARING LINE FROM MADRAS OVER TO JOHN DAY IS MAKING ITS WAY NORTHWARD...AND EXPECT PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES THROUGH THE BASIN BY LATE MORNING/EARLY AFTERNOON. THIS CLEARING COMBINED WITH THE SHORT WAVE MOVING THROUGH THE FORECAST AREA WILL HELP DESTABILIZE THE ALREADY UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE AND WILL ONCE AGAIN BRING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO THE FORECAST AREA THIS AFTERNOON. PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES ARE ONCE AGAIN BETWEEN 120 AND 160 PERCENT OF NORMAL AT SURROUNDING UPPER AIR STATIONS THIS MORNING. THIS WILL RESULT IN WET THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON...WITH SOME LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL AMOUNTS. WITH CURRENT SHOWER ACTIVITY AROUND THE FORECAST AREA THIS MORNING...DID AN UPDATE TO REMOVE AiFTERNOON WORDING. NO OTHER UPDATES EXPECTED AT THIS TIME.
