THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LINCOLN HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  SANGAMON COUNTY IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS
  SCOTT COUNTY IN WEST CENTRAL ILLINOIS
  MORGAN COUNTY IN WEST CENTRAL ILLINOIS

* UNTIL 700 AM CDT

* THIS IS A DANGEROUS FLOODING SITUATION.  
  AT 1230 AM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED
  HEAVY RAINS CONTINUING TO DEVELOP OVER EASTERN MISSOURI AND 
  WESTERN ILLINOIS...THEN CONTINUING TO MOVE ACROSS SCOTT AND MORGAN
  COUNTIES. RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE ESTIMATED AT BETWEEN ONE INCH AND 
  ONE AND ONE HALF INCHES PER HOUR.  UP TO 4 INCHES HAD FALLEN 
  OVER PORTIONS OF SCOTT COUNTY FROM EARLIER STORMS.  RADAR NOW 
  INDICATED THE VERY HEAVY RAINFALL ALSO MOVING INTO SANGAMON 
  COUNTY.  

* THUNDERSTORMS WITH EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE 
  ACROSS SCOTT...MORGAN...AND SANGAMON COUNTIES THROUGH THE MORNING
  HOURS.  ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF UP TO 4 INCHES WILL BE 
  POSSIBLE BY 7 AM. DANGEROUS...LIFE THREATENING FLASH FLOODING WILL
  BE POSSIBLE WITH THESE RAINFALL AMOUNTS.

MOST DEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR
VEHICLE INTO AREAS IN WHICH WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. IT ONLY TAKES A
FOOT OR TWO OF WATER TO WASH MOST VEHICLES AWAY. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN
RISING WATERS SHOULD BE ABANDONED QUICKLY.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLASH FLOODS. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT AT NIGHT TO JUDGE HOW
MUCH WATER COVERS ROADWAYS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS FLOODED ROADWAYS.
