000 WGUS54 KEWX 040544 FFWSAT TXC123-285-040830- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX 1245 AM CDT TUE SEP 4 2001 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A * FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES IN TEXAS... LAVACA DEWITT * UNTIL 330 AM CDT * AT 1240 AM...WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED HEAVY RAINS THROUGHOUT MUCH OF LAVACA AND DEWITT COUNTIES. THIS AREA OF HEAVY RAIN WAS MOVING SOUTHEAST AT 10 TO 15 MPH. WITH THE RECENT RAINS...GROUNDS REMAIN TOTALLY SATURATED...WITH RAPID RUNOFF AND RESULTANT FLOODING EXPECTED. HEAVY RUNOFF WILL FORCE SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS OUT OF BANKS...FLOODING SECONDARY ROADS...LOW BRIDGES AND CROSSINGS ACROSS LAVACA COUNTY THE NEXT FEW HOURS. MOTORISTS SHOULD APPROACH FLOOD PRONE AREAS VERY SLOWLY...AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ENTER FLOODED LOW WATER CROSSINGS. EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM THIS STORM WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS...COUNTRY ROADS...NORMALLY DRY WASHES AND ARROYOS...AS WELL AS FARMLAND ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS AND STREAMS. BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT QUICKLY. MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE ABANDONED QUICKLY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
