NORTHERN GREAT BASIN FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ELKO NV 200 PM PDT WED AUG 2 2000 SYNOPSIS...HIGH PRESSURE CENTERED OVER CENTRAL UTAH WILL SLOWLY MIGRATE TOWARD THE FOUR CORNERS AREA THROUGH FRIDAY. THE CLOCKWISE ROTATION AROUND THE HIGH WILL SEND MONSOON MOISTURE OVER NEVADA KEEPING A THREAT FOR AFTERNOON SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. ON SATURDAY AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE MOVING TO OUR NORTH WILL CREATE DRY SOUTHWEST WINDS ENDING THE THREAT OF THUNDERSTORMS FOR MOST AREAS. SHORT TERM...THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE SOUTHERN PORTION OF OUR CWA ARE DEFINATELY WET AS CONFIRMED BY SPOTTERS AND RADAR PCPN ESTIMATES. LARGE AREAL COVERAGE IN THE SOUTH SO WILL PUT NUMEROUS SHWRS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN THOSE ZONES THIS EVENING. TOMORROW DOES NOT LOOK TO BE QUITE AS UNSTABLE BUT STILL PLENTY OF MOISTURE TO FIRE UP INTO SCATTERED WET THUNDERSTORMS. SO WILL BLANKET THE CWA WITH SCATTERED POPS. LONG TERM...POSITIVE TILT TROF OFF THE WEST COAST WILL TURN THE FLOW OVER THE SILVER STATE FROM SOUTH TO A DRIER SOUTHWEST.
