SOUTHEAST TEXAS AND SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LAKE CHARLES LA
220 PM CDT TUE AUG 22 2000

CURRENT SFC ANALYSIS SHOWS HIGH PRESSURE OFF THE NC/VA COASTS...
RIDGING ACROSS THE NORTHERN GULF. VIS SAT & 88D SHOWS GOOD COVERAGE
OF TSRA OVER SE TX AND COASTAL WATERS THROUGH S LA AND SE LA.

MAJOR FEATURES OF NOTE WILL BE THE MID/UPPER RIDGE OVER SOUTH CENTRAL
AND SOUTHEAST US...AND HOW IT WILL CHANGE OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS.
THROUGH 48 HOURS...THE RIDGE WILL BE NUDGED SLIGHTLY TO THE WEST
AND THE TROF WILL SLIGHTLY DEEPEN. AFTER 48 HOURS...THE MODELS
DIVERGE. THIS WILL NOT CHANGE OUR WEATHER. NOW THE MODELS ARE IN
DISAGREEMENT WITH THE AMOUNT OF MOISTURE THAT WILL BE AFFECTING THE
CWA THE NEXT 48 HOURS. THE AVN IS NOTICEABLY THE WETTEST WITH MOST
OF THE MOISTURE (UP TO 500MB) OVER THE COASTAL WATERS AND SE TX/S
LA...DROPPING OFF FURTHER NORTH...AND MAXES IT ON 18Z WED. THE ETA IS
A BIT DRIER WITH MOISTURE UP TO 700MB...AND MAXING IT 18Z WED. THE
NGM IS THE DRIEST WITH MOISTURE UP TO 800 MB AND NO PREFERENCE ON
TIMING. THIS IS DUE TO REMANENT MOISTURE FROM THE UPPER LOW OVER THE
W GULF/MEXICO BY TOMORROW. MUCH DRIER AIR AT 500MB WILL BE ADVECTING
ACROSS C AND N LA...PRECLUDING MUCH DEVELOPMENT ACROSS THAT AREA.
WILL WORD PRECIP SCT OVER COASTAL WATERS AND FOR S ZONES...WIDELY
SCT INLAND ZONES.

THE EXTENDED IS STILL VERY QUESTIONABLE IF DEBBY ENTERS THE GULF OR
NOT. PRESENT 3-5 DAY NCEP PROGS RECURVES THE STORM UP THE EAST COAST
OF FLORIDA AND PUTS IT IN SOUTH CAROLINA BY DAY FIVE. HOWEVER...MOST
MODELS DIVERGE BY THIS TIME FRAME. WILL WORD CHANCE FOR SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS IN EXTENDED SECTIONS UNTIL| SOMETHING MORE CONCRETE
COMES AVAILABLE.
