EASTERN OKLAHOMA/NORTHWEST ARKANSAS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TULSA OK
130 PM CDT TUE JUN 29 1999

A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND
NORTHWEST ARKANSAS. THE STORMS WILL OCCUR THIS AFTERNOON PRIMARILY
SOUTH OF THE CIMARRON AND MUSKOGEE TURNPIKES. HOWEVER...THE ACTIVITY
WILL BECOME MORE NUMEROUS AND MORE WIDESPREAD OVER ALL OF EASTERN
OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS TONIGHT.

.SYNOPSIS...
A FRONT WILL REMAIN NEARLY STATIONARY ACROSS SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA THIS
AFTERNOON...BUT IT WILL DRIFT NORTHWARD AS A WARM FRONT TONIGHT.

.DISCUSSION...
NORTHEAST WINDS BROUGHT SLIGHTLY DRIER AIR MOVED INTO EASTERN OKLAHOMA
AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS EARLY THIS MORNING. HOWEVER...IT IS BEING
DISPLACED BY WARM...MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR WHICH HAS BEEN SPREADING
NORTHWARD OUT OF TEXAS. AS THIS TROPICAL AIR MASS RETURNS TO EASTERN
OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS...IT WILL FUEL THE DEVELOPMENT OF STRONG
TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS.

THUNDERSTORMS HAVE ALREADY DEVELOPED EARLY THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS PARTS
OF EASTERN OKLAHOMA...MAINLY SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 40...AND A SEVERE
THUNDERSTORM WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR A LARGE PART OF EASTERN OKLAHOMA
AND WEST CENTRAL ARKANSAS. MOST OF THESE STORMS WILL BE PULSE-TYPE
STORMS WHICH MAY DEVELOP RAPIDLY AND PRODUCE A DAMAGING WIND GUST BEFORE
DISSIPATING. VERY HEAVY DOWNPOURS ARE POSSIBLE DUE TO THE SLOW MOVEMENT
OF THE STORMS.

HOWEVER...THE MORE ORGANIZED SEVERE WEATHER THREAT IS EXPECTED TO OCCUR
TONIGHT. A COMPLEX OF STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IS EXPECTED TO
DEVELOP OVER NORTHWEST OKLAHOMA AND SOUTHWEST KANSAS THIS EVENING AND
THEN PROPOGATE SOUTHEASTWARD AS IT IS FED BY A DEVELOPING LOW LEVEL JET.
THE LEADING EDGE OF THE ACTIVITY MAY DEVELOP INTO A SQUALL LINE WITH THE
POTENTIAL FOR DAMAGING WINDS. LARGE HAIL AND VERY HEAVY RAINS WILL ALSO
BE A POSSIBILITY.

.EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY AND SPOTTER ACTIVATION...
SPOTTER ACTIVATION IS LIKELY ACROSS EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST
ARKANSAS THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. THE MAIN TIME FRAME SHOULD BE THIS
AFTERNOON IN THE SOUTHERN TWO THIRDS OF EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND WEST
CENTRAL ARKANSAS THIS AFTERNOON. THE THREAT WILL BE ACROSS ALL OF
EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS TONIGHT.

CIVIL DEFENSE AGENCIES SHOULD MONITOR THE LATEST STATEMENTS AND
FORECASTS CONCERNING THIS POTENTIALLY THREATENING WEATHER SITUATION.
