NORTHEASTERN PIMA COUNTY IN SOUTHERN ARIZONA * UNTIL 215 AM MST * AT 1215 AM MST... RADAR RAINFALL ESTIMATES AND RAIN GAGES INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY DOWNPOURS OVER FAR NORTHEAST TUCSON...NEAR THE TANQUE VERnDE AREA. SOUTHEAST ARIZONA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TUCSON AZ 920 PM MST THU AUG 13 1998 SYNOPSIS...HIGH PRESSURE ALOFT OVER THE WESTERN GREAT BASIN WILL DRIFT SLOWLY EAST DURING THE REMAINDER OF THIS WEEK. AN EAST TO NORTHEAST WIND FLOW AROUND THIS HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL ALLOW MONSOONAL MOISTURE AND THUNDERSTORMS TO PERSIST OVER SOUTHEAST ARIZONA INTO THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. DISCUSSION...SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE WEST OF A SAFFORD TO NOGALES LINE. HAD A FEW SEVERE BOOMERS EARLIER THIS EVENING WHICH WORKED OUT WELL FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH BOX ISSUED EARLIER TODAY. THE THREAT FOR ORGANIZED CONVECTION IS NOW OVER SO THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER (SPC) PUT TO BED THE WW AT 9PM/04Z. LIGHTNING DETECTION EQUIPMENT STILL SHOWING A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS MOVING INTO SOUTHERN GILA/NORTHWEST GRAHAM COUNTIES. THIS LINE MAY CONTINUE THROUGH PINAL AND PIMA COUNTIES BETWEEN 10 PM AND 2 AM.
