NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED AN AREA OF THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAINFALL ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE GREATER TUCSON AREA AND AROUND THE CATALINA MOUNTAINS. SOUTHEAST ARIZONA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TUCSON AZ 230 AM MST WED JUL 22 1998 SYNOPSIS...UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE WILL REMAIN TO THE NORTHEAST OF THE AREA...A POSITION FAVORABLE FOR CONTINUATION OF MOIST MONSOON CONTIIONS. DISCUSSION...MOST STORMS ON TUE WERE HANGING AROUND THE MTNS DUE TO LINGERING EFFECT OF PREVIOUS NIGHTS NOCTURNAL CONVECTION. AND STORMS IN MEX TONIGHT ARE OF SOME CONCERN THAT THEY MAY INTERFERE WITH TODAYS ACTION BELIEVE RIGHT NOW THAT THIS WILL NOT BE THE CASE. VALLEY/DESERT CAPE WILL SUPPORT TSTMS AS THEY MOVE OFF MTNS. H2 WNDS WILL ALSO BE WEAK AND THIS IS A FAVORABLE PATTERN FOR BIG STORMS. SO HAVE UPPED POPS AND WORDING FOR A BIG DAY. COULD ALSO BE SOME HAIL WITH THE STORMS BUT WILL AVOID THIS WORDING FOR NOW CONSIDERING ALMOST TROPICAL AIRMASS. STORMS SHOULD BE ABLE TO MOVE OUT INTO DESERT.
