AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY-RUSKIN, FL 220 PM EDT SAT JUL 5 1997 .CURRENT WX...AREA UNDER INFLUENCE OF SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW WITH SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRING THROUGHOUT FORECAST AREA. AT PRESENT THE MOST INTENSE ACTIVITY IS OVER WESTERN PASCO COUNTY AND SCATTERED OUT ACROSS THE GULF. MORE ACTIVITY LOCATED MAINLY OVER INLAND COUNTIES. THIS WX SHOULD CONTINUE THROUGH AT LEAST 8 PM AND WILL BE HANDELED WITH APPROPRIATE STATEMENTS AS NEEDED. CLOSE EXAMINATION OF 850MB HEIGHT FIELD SHOWS RIDGE AXIS FROM BERMUDA HIGH WELL SOUTH OF FA...IT APPEARS TO JET OUT OVER CUBA AND THE YUCATAN PENINSULA. THIS POSITIONING OF RIDGE AXIS WILL KEEP A SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW OVER FA THROUGH TONIGHT AND INTO SUNDAY. HOWEVER...BY MONDAY THE RIDGE AXIS CREEPS UP NORTHWARD AND CENTRAL FLORIDA ENDS UP UNDER A WEAK RIDGE. WHAT THIS MEANS IS THE PRESENT MOIST SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW WILL CONTINUE INTO SUNDAY AND WILL BRING ANOTHER ROUND OF EARLY MORNING AND AFTERNOON SHOWERS AND THUNDESTORMS ALONG THE COAST. AS SEA BREEZE BOUNDARIES KICKS INLAND MORE THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP INLAND. MONDAY IS A BIT TRICKIER TO PIN DOWN BUT WITH RIDGE AXIS ALMOST OVER FA WOULD THINK THUNDERSTORMS WOULD BE MAINLY THE AFTERNOON TYPE. THE TREND IS MY FRIEND TODAY AND I WOULD GO WITH PERSISTANCE AND KEEP SOME TYPE OF SOUTHWESTERLY WIND AND CURRENT POPS AND TEMPS...I.E...50 POPS FOR FA DURING DAYTIME WITH 20S FOR NIGHTIME HOURS AND TEMPS IN THE LOWER 90S DURING THE DAY COOLING DOWN TO MIDDLE AND UPPER 70S AT NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY.
