000 TTAA00 KRDU 282209 RRA SVRRDU NCC067-282245- BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RALEIGH/DURHAM NC 607 PM EDT MON JUL 28 1997 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RALEIGH/DURHAM HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 645 PM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN NORTH CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA ...EASTERN FORSYTH COUNTY AT 607 PM THE WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN RALEIGH'S DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM NORTHWEST OF KERNERSVILLE. THIS STORM WAS ALONG HIGHWAY 158 AND WAS MOVING TO THE EAST SLOWLY. VERY STRONG DOWNBURST WINDS WITH DAMAGE AND HEAVY RAINS UP TO 3 INCHES IN A HOUR OR LESS AND FREQUENT LIGHTNING. DOWNBURST WINDS FROM A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAN SOMETIMES REACH 100 MPH. A POWERFUL DOWNBURST CAN BE AS BAD AS A TORNADO. THESE WINDS DOWN TREES AND POWER LINES...OVERTURN MOBILE HOMES...AND DAMAGE BUILDINGS. SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY AND REPORT DAMAGES PROMPTLY TO EMERGENCY OFFICIALS FOR RELAY TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE. JWC
