705 WUUS1 KPHX 090221 RRA SVRPHX AZC013-090315- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PHOENIX AZ 719 PM MST FRI AUG 8 1997 * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR SOUTHWESTERN MARICOPA COUNTY IN CENTRAL ARIZONA * UNTIL 820 PM MST * SOME LOCATIONS AFFECTED GILA BEND STATE ROUTE 85 INTERSTATE 8 * AT 715 PM MST RADAR INDICATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WERE DEVELOPING 5 MILES EAST AND SOUTHEAST OF GILA BEND. MOVEMENT OF THE STORMS WAS TO THE WEST AT 10 MPH. DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 65 MPH AND HAIL GREATER THAN 1 INCH IN DIAMETER ARE LIKELY WITH THIS STORM. RAINFALL IN EXCESS OF 1 INCH PER HOUR CAN BE EXPECTED...SO WASHES WILL RUN AND MOTORISTS WILL ENCOUNTER PONDING OR RUNNING WATER ON INTERSTATE 8 AND STATE ROUTE 85. PRIOR TO THE RAIN...BLOWING DUST WILL REDUCE VISIBILITIES TO UNDER 1/2 MILE AT TIMES. THIS STORM WILL PASS OVER OR JUST SOUTH OF GILA BEND.
