000 TTAA00 KMRX 270403 COR FFWMRX TNC091-270700- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING...CORRECTED FOR TYPO NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE KNOXVILLE TRI CITIES TN 1159 PM EDT MON MAY 26 1997 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN KNOXVILLE TRI CITIES HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 300 AM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN EAST TENNESSEE ...JOHNSON COUNTY AS OF 1150 PM EDT DOPPLER RADAR ESTIMATED THAT 1 INCH OF RAIN HAD ALREADY FALLEN ACROSS MOST OF JOHNSON COUNTY. MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN CONTINUES TO FALL ACROSS THE COUNTY. THIS ADDITIONAL RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING. PEOPLE LIVING ALONG THE LAUREL CREEK WILL NEED TO BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS FROM RAPIDLY RISING WATER. COUNTY OFFICIALS ALREADY REPORT THAT MANY CREEKS ARE SPILLING THEIR BANKS. A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT. IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHERE YOU ARE RELATIVE TO STREAMS...RIVERS...OR CREEKS WHICH CAN BECOME KILLERS IN HEAVY RAINS. AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE KNOXVILLE/TRI-CITIES TN 825 PM EDT MON MAY 26 1997 KMRX 88D CONTINUES TO SHOW TWO AREAS OF PCPN ACROSS THE CWA. THE FIRST BATCH IS A SCTD AREA OF SHRAS/TSRAS LOCATED ACROSS SW VA AND NE TN. THIS IS ASSCTD WITH THE ACTUAL FNT WHICH IS NOW LOCATED JUST TO THE NORTH OF TRI. THE SECOND AND LESS SIGNIFICANT AREA IS NOW MOVING THROUGH EXTREME SE TN AND SW NC. THIS SECOND AREA WL CONTINUE TO WEAKEN AS THE FIRST MCS LOSES ITS PUNCH. HOWEVER THE CONVECTION ASSCTD WITH THE ACTUAL FNT WL LAST A BIT LONGER AS IT SLOWLY MOVES SWD INTO THE MODERATE INSTABILITY. WITH ALL THIS SAID CHC POPS STILL LOOK GOOD FOR TNT EXCEPT FOR SW VA WHERE LKLY POPS UNTIL MIDNIGHT LOOK BETTER. THE NEXT BIG QUESTION IS IF THE NEXT MCS AFFECTS SE TN AFT MIDNIGHT TNT. GOING BY THE TRACK OF THE PREVIOUS ONE AND THE THICKNESS FIELDS I THINK THE BRUNT OF THIS MCS WL LKLY REMAIN TO THE SOUTH OF SE TN. HOWEVER IT WL BE CLOSE ENOUGH TO PERHAPS WARRANT SLIGHTLY HIGHER POPS THAN THE REST OF THE CWA. ALSO WE MAY WANT TO CONSIDER MENTIONING "SOME COULD BE SEVERE" ACROSS SE TN AS WELL. NO OTHER SIGNIFICANT CHANGES NEEDED. MB
