THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STERLING VA HAS EXTENDED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 130 AM EDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...

IN NORTHWESTERN VIRGINIA

   ...GREENE COUNTY
   ...MADISON COUNTY
 
4 TO 6 INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN OVER BOTH OF THESE COUNTIES.
AN AUTOMATED RAIN GAUGE AT ROUTE 29 AND THE RAPIDAN RIVER IN
MADISON COUNTY HAS MEASURED 6.85 INCHES...MOST OF IT IN A
THREE HOUR PERIOD.  THUS FAR ONLY SPOTTY REPORTS OF ROAD AND
STREAM FLOODING HAVE BEEN RECEIVED AT THIS LATE HOUR...BUT MORE
SERIOUS FLOODING MAY BE OCCURING.

DOPPLER RADAR SHOWED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS PERSISTING OVER
CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN MADISON COUNTY AND EXTREME NORTHEASTERN
GREENE COUNTY.  THE STORMS WERE SHOWING ONLY A SLIGHT DRIFT TOWARD
THE EAST.
 

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE
THE DANGERS OF FLASH FLOODING.

IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED...ACT QUICKLY.  MOVE TO ESCAPE FLOOD
WATERS.  DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS
RISING.
