000 TTAA00 KRDU 040135 FFWRDU NCC167-040330- BULLETIN - EBS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RALEIGH/DURHAM NC 932 PM EDT TUE SEP 3 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RALEIGH/DURHAM HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1130 PM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN SOUTH CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA ...SOUTHERN STANLY COUNTY AT 930 PM EDT...WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR SHOWED THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN DEVELOPING OVER SOUTHERN STANLY COUNTY. RADAR ESTIMATES THAT SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS DURING THE PAST THREE HOURS HAVE DUMPED AS MUCH AS THREE INCHES OF RAIN NEAR STANFIELD AND OAKBORO. ANOTHER INCH OR TWO OF RAIN IS EXPECTED IN THESE AREAS DURING THE NEXT HOUR OR TWO. PERSONS LIVING NEAR OR TRAVELING ALONG THE ROCKY RIVER SHOULD BE ALERT FOR RISING WATER. FLOOD WATERS ARE HARDER TO SEE AT NIGHT AND MOST FLASH FLOOD FATALITIES OCCUR AT NIGHT. AVOID DRIVING ACROSS FLOODED ROADWAYS. WATER TWO FEET DEEP CAN FLOAT MOST CARS OFF THE ROAD.
