000 TTAA00 KRDU 040023 FFWRDU NCC057-040230- BULLETIN - EBS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RALEIGH/DURHAM NC 821 PM EDT TUE SEP 3 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RALEIGH/DURHAM HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1030 PM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN NORTH CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA ...DAVIDSON COUNTY WEATHER RADAR INDICATES THAT NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS HAVE MOVED FROM SOUTH TO NORTH OVER THE SAME AREAS OF DAVIDSON COUNTY SINCE ABOUT 530 PM THIS EVENING. ACCORDING TO RADAR...SOME AREAS MAY HAVE RECEIVED OVER TWO AND A-HALF INCHES OF RAINFALL...AND SHOWERS CONTINUE TO PRODUCE RAIN AT A RATE OF ONE TO ONE AND A-HALF INCHES PER HOUR IN SOME SPOTS. AREAS THAT HAVE BEEN MOST AFFECTED BY THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THIS EVENING STRETCH FROM NEAR LAKEVIEW AND LINWOOD IN THE SOUTHWEST TO NEAR AND NORTH OF THOMASVILLE IN THE NORTHEAST PART OF THE COUNTY. FLOOD WATERS ARE HARDER TO SEE AT NIGHT AND MOST FLASH FLOOD FATALITIES OCCUR AT NIGHT. AVOID DRIVING ACROSS FLOODED ROADWAYS. WATER TWO FEET DEEP CAN FLOAT MOST CARS OFF THE ROAD. REPORT FLOODING TO LOCAL EMERGENCY OFFICIALS IMMEDIATELY. A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT. STAY ALERT IF YOU ARE IN FLOOD-PRONE AREAS NEAR STREAMS AND CREEKS. WATCH FOR RAPIDLY RISING WATER. BE PREPARED TO ACT QUICKLY AND MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED.
