220 PM CST WED JAN 17 1996

THE STRONG COLD FRONT APPEARS ON SCHEDULE TO ENTER NORTHWEST OKLAHOMA
EARLY THIS EVENING.  EARLY THIS AFTERNOON...CYCLOGENESIS WAS CONTINUING
IN WEST CENTRAL KANSAS WITH THE LARGEST MSL PRESSURE FALLS FROM SLN TO
DSM.  THE COLD FRONT WILL OVERTAKE THE OLD WARM FRONT WHICH WAS LOCATED
FROM WEST CENTRAL KANSAS TO SOUTHEAST NEBRASKA AT 1 PM.  BECAUSE LOW
LEVEL MOISTURE WILL BE VERY LIMITED AND MOST OF THE SYNOPTIC SCALE
DYNAMICS WILL REMAIN NORTH OF OKLAHOMA...SCATTERED RAIN SHOWERS ACROSS
THE NORTHWEST WILL BECOME OCCASIONAL LIGHT SNOW BY MID-EVENING WITH ONLY
LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS AT THE MOST.  THE FRONT SHOULD BRING VERY GUSTY
NORTHWEST WINDS INTO CENTRAL OKLAHOMA BY LATE EVENING AND INTO THE
SOUTHEAST SHORTLY AFTER SUNRISE THURSDAY.  THE MAIN FACTOR IN THE
NORTHWEST TONIGHT WILL BE WIND CHILLS IN THE 15 TO 25 DEGREE BELOW
RANGE, AND A WIND CHILL ADVISORY WILL BE REQUIRE THERE.

WITH WEAK BOUNDARY LAYER MOISTURE ADVECTION IN PLACE ACROSS THE
EAST...THE STRONG LOW LEVEL WINDS AND SYNOPTIC JET WILL INTERACT
LATER THIS EVENING TO PRODUCE SOME THUNDERSTORMS IN SOUTH CENTRAL AND
SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA.  THE OKLAHOMA THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK ISSUED AT 1235 PM
HAS THE DETAILS.

LOW CLOUDS ON THE SOUTHWEST SIDE OF THE SURFACE LOW SHOULD MOVE OUT OF
CENTRAL AND NORTHERN OKLAHOMA EARLY ENOUGH THURSDAY TO GIVE SOME SUN TO
THOSE AREAS IN THE AFTERNOON.  TEMPERATURES IN MOST AREAS WILL REMAIN
RISE ONLY SLIGHT INTO THE UPPER TEENS THROUGH MIDDLE 20S EXCEPT IN THE
SOUTHEAST WHERE THEY WILL FALL THROUGHOUT THE MORNING.  THE SURFACE HIGH
SHOULD SETTLE OVER THE CENTRAL PLAINS FRIDAY MORNING TO GIVE MUCH OF
OKLAHOMA THE COLDEST READINGS THIS SEASON.  HOWEVER, THE NEXT UPPER
SYSTEM, NOW APPROACHING THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST, WILL DEVELOP A STRONG LEE
TROUGH BY FRIDAY AFTERNOON FROM EASTERN MT TO NORTHEAST NM HELPING TO
MODERATE TEMPERATURES BY FRIDAY AFTERNOON IN WESTERN OKLAHOMA.
