000 TTAA00 KNYC 020834 FFWNYC NJC003-NYC087-021130- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY 331 AM EST MON DEC 2 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NEW YORK HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 630 AM EST FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS... IN NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY ...BERGEN COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST NEW YORK ...ROCKLAND COUNTY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED AN AREA OF RAIN WILL CONTNUE OVER THE REGION FOR THE NEXT FEW HOURS. THIS WILL AGGRAVATE SMALL CREEKS AND RIVERS...SOME OF WHICH HAVE RISEN TO NEAR OR OVER BANK FULL. AT 320 AM...THE HO-HO-KUS CREEK IN BERGEN COUNTY HAD RISEN TO 2.96 FT. FLOOD STAGE IS 3.0 FEET. THE CREEK IS EXPEC DTO GO ABOVE FLOOD STAGE SHORTLY...AND RECEDE BELOW FLOOD STAGE LATER THIMORNING. IN ADDITION...THE RAMAPO RIVER AT MAHWAH HAD RISEN TO 7.07 FEET AT 320 AM. FLOOD STAGE IS 8.0 FEET. THE RIVER IS EXPECTED TO CREST NEAR FLOOD STAGE LATER THIS MORNING. OTHER SMALL CREEKS AND RIVERS MAY ALSO EXCEED BANK FULL DURING THE EARLY MORNING. BE ON THE ALERT FOR FLOODING NEAR THESE CREEKS. MOST DEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL ONE...ON FOOT. HAYES
