THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NEWPORT HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  630 PM EDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION...
 
IN EAST CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA
 
   ...SOUTHERN CRAVEN COUNTY
 
AT 425 PM WEATHER SERVICE RADAR INDICATED A NEARLY STATIONARY LINE OF
THUNDERSTORMS FROM NEAR JACKSONVILLE EAST ACROSS NEW BERN AND BAYBORO.
THE HEAVIEST STORMS WERE LOCATED JUST SOUTH OF NEW BERN.  THIS AREA HAS
ALREADY RECEIVED 1 TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN THIS AFTERNOON AND DOPPLER RADAR
ESTIMATES THAT RAIN IS FALLING AT ALMOST 2 INCHES AN HOUR.
 
THE HEAVY RAIN WILL CAUSE RAPID RUN-OFF INTO LOW LYING AREAS AND CREATE
DEEP PONDING OF WATER ON AREA ROADWAYS...ESPECIALLY ON ROUTE 70 BETWEEN
NEW BERN AND HAVELOCK.  IF YOU LIVE IN A FLOOD PRONE AREA MONITOR WATER
LEVELS CLOSELY AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION IF FLOODING DEVELOPS.
 
 
DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY.  THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO
CROSS SAFELY.  VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE
ABANDONED QUICKLY.  MOVE T|O HIGHER GROUND.
