THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NEW ORLEANS HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING    EFFECTIVE UNTIL  845 AM CDT
FOR RESIDENTS IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION...
 
IN SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA
 
   ...POINTE COUPEE PARISH
 
AT 420 AM CDT...POINTE COUPEE PARISH SHERIFF'S OFFICE REPORTED FLOODING
TAKING PLACE IN THE LIVONIA AND FORDOCHE AREAS THIS MORNING. SLIDELL
DOPPLER RADAR RAINFALL ESTIMATES RANGE FROM TWO AND A HALF TO 5 INCHES
OF RAIN HAS ALREADY FALLEN ACROSS MUCH OF THE PARISH. THE HARDEST HIT
AREA WAS GENERALLY IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE PARISH ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY
190 FROM ERWINVILLE TO LOTTIE.
 
ADDITIONAL RAINFALL IS ANTICIPATED THROUGHOUT THE DAY WHICH WILL
AGGRAVATE ANY ONGOING FLOODING.  THE SOILS WILL BECOME SATURATED AND
MANY BAYOUS AND STREAMS IN THE PARISH WILL BECOME SWOLLEN TO NEAR
BANKFULL LEVELS. PERSONS ALONG BAYOU GROSSE TETE SHOULD PAY CLOSE
ATTENTION TO THE WATER LEVELS AND BE PREPARED TO MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
 
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS
IMMINENT.  MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL
ONE...ON FOOT.  TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND.
