000 TTAA00 KBUF 081841 RRA FFWBUF NYC009-082000- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BUFFALO NY 239 PM EDT THU AUG 8 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BUFFALO NY HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 400 PM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN WESTERN NEW YORK ...CATTARAUGUS COUNTY THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN COVERED MUCH OF WESTERN CATTARAUGUS COUNTY AT 230 PM. THE STRONGEST STORMS WERE NEAR THE TOWNS OF CATTARAUGUS AND NEW ALBION. BUFFALO DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED RAINFALL RATES OF ONE TO TWO INCHES PER HOUR WITH THESE STORMS. THEY WERE MOVING SLOWLY EASTWARD AT 20 MILES AN HOUR AND WILL AFFECT A LARGE PORTION OF THE COUNTY THROUGH 4 PM. DUE TO THE SLOW MOVEMENT OF THE STORMS...RAINFALL OF THREE INCHES IS POSSIBLE IN SOME AREAS. THIS WOULD CAUSE SIGNIFICANT FLOODING OF SMALL STREAMS. OTHER STRONG STORMS WILL MOVE ALONG THE BORDER WITH PENNSYLVANIA THROUGH 4 PM. IF FLOODING IS OBSERVED...AvCT QUICKLY. MOVE TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING. MCLAUGHLIN
