000 TTAA00 KBUF 081222 FFWBUF NYC055-073-117-081430- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BUFFALO NY 823 AM EDT THU AUG 8 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BUFFALO NY HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WARNING FOR URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1030 AM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS... IN WESTERN NEW YORK ...MONROE COUNTY ...ORLEANS COUNTY ...WAYNE COUNTY THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPED RAPIDLY ALONG THE LAKE ONTARIO SHORELINE JUST AFTER 7 AM AND HAVE QUICKLY EXPANDED EASTWARD TO COVER THE ENTIRE LAKESHORE FROM NIAGARA COUNTY TO OSWEGO. BUFFALO DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED THAT ONE TO TWO INCHES OF RAIN HAS ALREADY FALLEN IN A ONE HOUR PERIOD OVER MUCH OF ORLEANS...MONROE...AND WAYNE COUNTIES...INCLUDING GREATER ROCHESTER. THIS ACTIVITY WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE OVER THE SAME AREAS UNTIL AT LEAST 10 AM...AND WIDESPREAD URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING IS POSSIBLE. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE ABANDONED QUICKLY.
