THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBANY NY  HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 600 PM EDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION...
 
IN CENTRAL NEW YORK
 
   ...SOUTHERN HERKIMER COUNTY
 
THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR SOUTHERN HERKIMER COUNTY HAS BEEN EXTENDED
UNTIL 600 PM THIS AFTERNOON. EVEN THOUGH THE RAIN HAS DIMINISHED TO
OCCASIONAL LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAIN THIS MORNING HAS
FORCED MANY STREAMS AND CREEKS ABOVE THEIR BANKS AND INTO SOME HOMES
AND ROADAYS.
 
LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS AND SKYWARN WEATHER SPOTTERS CONTINUE TO
REPORT SOME STREAMS AND CREEKS OUT OF THEIR BANKS AND RISING IN SELECTED
LOCATIONS...IN PARTICULAR MOYER AND FERGUSON CREEKS. ESPECIALLY HARD HIT
ARE THE THE VILLAGE OF FRANKFORT AND THE TOWN OF FRANKFORT WHERE SOME
EVACUATIONS WERE REPORTEDLY TAKING PLACE. MANY ROADS ARE FLOODED...
WASHED OUT...OR LITTERED WITH DEBRIS.
 
ALL STREAMS AND CREEKS ARE EXPECTED TO SLOWLY RECEDE LATER THIS
AFTERNOON. HOWEVER THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR ANOTHER PERIOD OF
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND
THIS EVENING. ANY ADDITIONAL SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL WILL EXACERBATE THE
SITUATION AND LIKELY PRODUCE ADDITIONAL FLOODING.
 
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS
IMMINENT.  MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL
ONE...ON FOOT.  TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND.
