THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBANY NY  HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  130 PM EDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION...
 
IN CENTRAL NEW YORK
 
   ...SOUTHERN HERKIMER COUNTY
 
AT 1037 AM DOPPLER WEATHER INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN
WILL MOVE INTO SOUTHWESTERN HERKIMER COUNTY. ACROSS SOUTHERN HERKIMER
COUNTY RADAR ESTIMATES OF BETWEEN 2 AND 4 INCHES OF RAIN HAVE FALLEN
SINCE EARLY THIS MORNING WITH SOME LOCALIZED AMOUNTS IN EXCESS OF 5
INCHES. THIS ADDITIONAL RAINFALL WILL FORCE ALREADY SWOLLEN CREEKS
AND STREAMS OUT OF THEIR BANKS. THE COMMUNITIES OF ILION...FRANKFORT
AND HERKIMER WILL BE MOST PRONE TO FLOODING.
 
LOCAL AUTHORITIES IN SOUTHERN HERKIMER COUNTY ALREADY REPORT SOME ROADS
WASHED OUT OR FLOODED AND WATER IN BASEMENTS AND CELLARS.
 
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS
IMMINENT.  MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL
ONE...ON FOOT.  TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND.
