000 TTAA00 KNYC 150239 RRA SVRNYC CTC001-150345- BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY 1040 PM EDT SAT OCT 14 1995 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NEW YORK HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1145 PM EDT FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN SOUTHWEST CONNECTICUT ...FAIRFIELD COUNTY AND THE ADJACENT COASTAL WATERS DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER EASTERN WESTCHESTER AND EASTERN PUTNAM COUNTIES OF NEW YORK MOVING INTO FAIRFIELD COUNTY. THE THUNDERSTORMS IN THIS LINE HAVE A HISTORY OF DAMAGING WINDS TO 60 MPH. THE THUNDERSTORMS THEMSELVES WERE MOVING TOWARDS THE NORTHEAST AT 45 MPH. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 58 MPH AND VERY HEAVY RAIN. HEAVY RAINS FLOOD ROADS QUICKLY SO DON'T DRIVE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.

HEAVY RAINS AND SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS AHEAD OF A STRONG COLD FRONT WERE CAUSING EXTENSIVE STREET AND HIGHWAY FLOODING IN PARTS OF OUR AREA. THOSE COUNTIES HIT THE HARDEST THUS FAR INCLUDE HUDSON COUNTY IN NEW JERSEY...ORANGE AND WESTCHESTER COUNTIES IN NEW YORK...AND FAIRFIELD AND NEW HAVEN COUNTIES IN CONNECTICUT. 1 TO 1.5 INCHES OF RAIN HAVE ALREADY FALLEN IN PARTS OF THESE COUNTIES. THE HEAVIEST RAIN HAS FALLEN IN HUDSON COUNTY. IN JERSEY CITY ALMOST 2 INCHES...1.98...WERE REPORTED IN JUST A HALF HOUR...BETWEEN 7.30 AND 8.00PM.
