FLASH FLOOD WARNING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OXNARD CA
1130 PM PST MON JAN 9 1995

...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN OXNARD HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD 
WARNING FOR PEOPLE IN WEST VENTURA COUNTY ALONG THE VENTURA RIVER UNTIL 
6 AM PST... 

SULPHUR MOUNTAIN DOPPLER RADAR SHOWED A LARGE AREA OF RAIN MOVING 
ACROSS SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, MOVING EASTWARD INTO VENTURA COUNTY.
THE VENTURA RIVER AT MEINERS OAKS HAS REACHED A STAGE HIGH ENOUGH FOR 
ALERTS TO BE ISSUED, BUT WITH RADAR INDICATING THAT A COUPLE INCHES OF 
RAIN FALL BY DAWN, A FLASH FLOOD WARNING IS DEEMED NECESSARY.

LOCATIONS MOST AT RISK FOR FLOODING INCLUDE OJALA BELOW THE MATILIJA 
RESERVOIR, MEINERS OAKS, OAKVIEW AND OTHER LOCATIONS ALONG HIGHWAY 33 
TO THE OCEAN.

THIS SITUATION WILL LAST OVERNIGHT INTO TUESDAY, ALTHOUGH HEAVIER RAIN 
SHOULD END BY DAYBREAK, SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE INTO THE AFTERNOON AND IT 
WILL TAKE A WHILE TO DRY OUT.

FOLLOW DIRECTIONS OF EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS OFFICIALS AND EVACUATE IF 
REQUESTED TO DO SO. PERSONS LIVING IN OR BELOW THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD 
BE PREPARED TO MOVE IMMEDIATELY, WITHOUT WAITING FOR INSTRUCTIONS, IF 
HEAVY FLOWS OF WATER OR MUD ARE OBSERVED.
