IAZALL-132240- SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT AND RADAR SUMMARY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DES MOINES IA 440 PM CDT SUN JUN 13 1993 ...A TORNADO WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST IOWA UNTIL 10 PM CDT... AT 330 PM CDT...INTENSE THUNDERSTORMS WITH EXTREMELY HEAVY RAIN WERE OCCURRING OVER SOUTHWEST INTO NORTH CENTRAL IOWA. THE STORMS WERE LOCATED FROM 35 MILES SOUTHEAST OF COUNCIL BLUFFS NEAR RED OAK...TO 40 MILES WEST OF DES MOINES NEAR GUTHRIE CENTER. OTHER STRONG STORMS WERE 45 MILES NORTHEAST OF COUNCIL BLUFFS NEAR DENISON...35 MILES NORTHWEST OF DES MOINES NEAR OGDEN...AND 40 MILES SOUTHWEST OF MASON CITY NEAR ALGONA. THESE STORMS WERE PRODUCING TORRENTIAL RAIN...GUSTY WINDS...NEARLY CONTINUOUS LIGHTNING AND PEA TO MARBLE SIZE HAIL. THE EXTREME RAINFALL WAS CAUSING URBAN FLOODING IN SOME LOCATIONS. THE STORMS WERE PART OF AN AREA OF SHOWERS AND STORMS OCCURRING OVER THE WEST TWO-THIRDS OF IOWA...GENERALLY WEST OF A LINE FROM MASON CITY TO BELLE PLAINE TO LAMONI.
