THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DES MOINES HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 130 AM CDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
 
IN CENTRAL IOWA
 
   ...WESTERN HAMILTON COUNTY...SOUTHEASTERN WEBSTER COUNTY
 
AT 1000 PM CDT FORT DODGE POLICE REPORTED FLASH FLOODING OCCURING SOUTH
OF CALLENDER. CALLENDER IS LOCATED 15 MILES SOUTHWEST OF FORT DODGE.
DURING A 45 MINUTE PERIOD THE AREA AROUND CALLENDER RECEIVED UP TO 3
INCHES OF RAIN.
 
AS THE THUNDERSTORM MOVES ACROSS THE AREA FLASH FLOODING IS EXPECTED...
ESPECIALLY ALONG BRUSHY CREEK AND PRAIRIE CREEK. THESE CREEKS FLOW INTO
THE DES MOINES RIVER. TRIBUTARIES OF THE BOONE RIVER WILL EXPERIENCE
RAPID RISES OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS AS THE THUNDERSTORM MOVES OVER THE
AREA.
 
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS
IMMINENT.  MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL
ONE...ON FOOT.  TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND.
