FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  245 AM EDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
 
IN EAST CENTRAL GEORGIA
 
   ...SOUTHERN BURKE COUNTY...EASTERN EMANUEL COUNTY...JENKINS COUNTY
   ...NORTHERN SCREVEN COUNTY
 
AT 1130 PM EDT WEATHER SERVICE RADARS CONTINUE TO INDICATE STRONG
THUNDERSTORMS WITH TORENTIAL DOWNPOURS ACROSS THE CENTRAL SAVANNAH
RIVER AREA. NUMEROUS REPORTS OF FLOODING HAVE BEEN RELAYED TO THE
WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN AUGUSTA. JENKINS COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE
REPORTED FLOODING ALONG HIGHWAYS 17...25...121...AND THE SYLVANIA
HIGHWAY. THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS OF RAINFALL IN EXCESS OF FIVE INCHES
IN MANY AREAS.
 
FLOODING SHOULD CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS BEFORE RAINFALL
TAPERS OFF FROM THE WEST. THE MOVEMENT OF THE RAIN AREA WAS EAST AT
10 MPH WHILE THE THUNDERSTORMS MOVED NORTH AT 15 MPH.
 
 
 
 
 
BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE
THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS.  IF FLASH FLOODING IS
OBSERVED...ACT QUICKLY.  MOVE UP TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS.  DO
NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.
 
MOST DEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A
SMALL ONE...ON FOOT.
